Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann has pulled out of the France international squad with an ankle injury and will be absent from the international side for the first time since November 2016.

Antoine Griezmann Injury is serious and he was expected to take part in the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Chile, to be played on the 23rd and 26th respectively.

The Frenchman has been in outstanding form this season, contributing to 19 goals and seven assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

The 32-year-old forward is still struggling with his ankle which recently kept him out for three weeks and returned to action against Inter Milan last Wednesday. Griezmann was passed fit for the weekend clash against Barcelona but was only fit enough to play 45 minutes.

The French forward has appeared on the pitch in a staggering 84 consecutive matches for the Les Blues since a friendly against England in June 2017 when he was an unused substitute.

Easily, Griezmann is one of the players who’s highly rated by France manager Didier Deschamps and has described him as “not irreplaceable but essential”.

“Antoine has a problem with his ankle, which reacted even though he played 45 minutes last night,” Deschamps confirmed. “With Antoine’s qualities, we’re not going to find a player who has his characteristics. A replacement position for the position is very, very, very difficult to find. We will arrange things differently.”
