Crystal Palace have successfully secured a deal to sign Blackburn Rovers’ highly coveted midfielder, Adam Wharton, for a staggering £22 million, including add-ons.
The 19-year-old England Under-20 international is set to undergo a medical in London on Tuesday, marking Palace’s second major signing of the January transfer window.

Having been named Blackburn’s young player of the season in 2022-23, Wharton has been a standout performer, making 26 league appearances this season, further solidifying his reputation as a rising star in English football.
The deal, initially reported at £18 million, signifies Palace’s eagerness to bolster their squad, particularly in the midfield, following the long-term injury setback to Cheick Doucoure.
Palace’s pursuit of Wharton faced initial hurdles, with an £18.5 million bid rejected by Rovers last week. However, with the transfer deadline looming, Palace returned with an improved offer, ultimately securing the services of the talented midfielder.
In an exclusive interview with BBC Radio Lancashire following Blackburn Rovers’ FA Cup triumph over Wrexham, Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson opened up about the impending departure of star midfielder Adam Wharton to Crystal Palace.
“We all know Adam is a great player. [He is] a joy to develop, a joy to work with daily. We know there are a lot of rumours and when you have a good player, which Adam is and maybe an England player one time, there is a chance he could go away.”
“That’s football. That’s life. One thing we can say about Adam is that we’re proud of him if he plays here or if he plays for another club.”
