Joe Cole has suggested Chelsea should consider a move for Real Madrid star Luka Modric or Toni Kroos. He believes that adding an experienced star to the midfield would help the team.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Cole claimed that the young players at Chelsea need support and believes that the next addition should be an experienced star. He claimed that Modric and Kroos will be available in the summer and they should be targetted by his former club.
He said:
“I’d be looking to bring in some experienced players who set the tone. I’m thinking is Luka Modric out of [contract]? Does he want to come and play in the Premier League for one more year? He’s still doing bits at Real Madrid. And how much has he helped [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Aurelien] Tchouameni, [Federico] Valverde? He would’ve had such an influence on them as players.”
Continuing about the Real Madrid stars, he added:
“Toni Kroos is 34. Does he want to test himself at his age? Coming over here and helping out this young squad. They’re just names I’ve thrown off the top of my head, I don’t know their situation.”

Carlo Ancelotti has left Luka Modric’s future in the Croatian star’s hands and said:
“We celebrated Luka because he deserved it, he scored a great goal that gave us three points, and he brought a lot more. He had freshness. He shows that it is very difficult to leave him on the bench. Not just because of the goal, but because of how he trains every day. It’s in Luka’s hands what he wants to do. We have to wait for his decision. Out of respect for him, I can’t give him advice. He knows perfectly well what he has to do. The quality of the minutes is more important than the quantity.”
Luka Modric signed a 1-year deal last summer and has interest from Saudi Arabia and MLS.
Mauricio Pochettino is doing a ‘great job’ at Chelsea, claims Joe Cole
Mauricio Pochettino has been questioned by Chelsea fans and pundits this season as they are sitting 11th in the Premier League table. However, Cole believes the Argentine manager is doing a ‘great job’ at Stamford Bridge.
He said:
“It’s a transitional time for the club, we know that. There’s young, young players. There’s so much talent there, there’s so much potential. I think Poch has done a great job because he’s constantly drilling that narrative. You can’t look at this Chelsea team like you would Chelsea teams of the past. This is a team that’s developing, the targets are different.”
Chelsea lost the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool last month. They are back to Wembley in April and will face Manchester City in the FA Cup semifinal.
