England Euro 2024 Squad: Jack Grealish, Harry Maguire, and James Maddison Left Out

England Euro 2024 squad has been announced. There are a few big names missing out on the team. When the provisional team was announced, Marcus Rashford, Reece James, and more were among the notable absentees.

Jack Grealish has been left out. The Manchester City winger won the PL recently. Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison’s exclusion has been confirmed. Manchester United’s Harry Maguire will also not travel due to an injury.

Jarrad Branthwaite is another surprising absentee. The young defender has been in stellar form for Everton. Luke Shaw, though, will travel with the team despite his injury.

England Squad for Euro 2024: Luke Shaw makes the final list

Luke Shaw’s inclusion in England Euro 2024 squad comes as a surprise. The defender has been dealing with an injury for a while. Southgate, though has been impressed with Shaw’s progress. He expects the full-back to play some part in the Three Lions’ second group game. Southgate said (via Ben Jacobs on X):

“He’s progressed really well in the last couple of weeks. At the moment we think he could have some involvement in the second group-stage game. He’s had a good volume of work, operating at good speeds as well. I think you can take one gamble, and this a gamble we have enough evidence to suggest can pay off.”

Southgate added:

“And positionally and because of what he brings: his experience, the fact he’s a left-footer who can drive forwards and give us an attacking option as well, it’s a situation we wanted to explore.”

Branthwaite’s exclusion, though, is surprising. He is one of the few left-footed defenders and has also played as a left-back. Considering Southgate has picked the team based on form, the youngster was expected to travel.
