When we talk about the football royalties, the Ballon d’Or trophy is the utmost royalty of individual excellence. Over the many years now, many greats have been graced by the prestigious trophy to commend their full-season performance.

For 16 years, the thunder dome had been graced by the Argentine prince Lionel Messi and the Portuguese generational Cristiano Ronaldo. The 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony will mark a new era as both Messi and CR7 will not be present this year. The new era is led by top favorites Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., and Rodri, as they top the Ballon d’Or power rankings for 2024.

Ever since 1956, this prestigious trophy has been given to the exceptional talents. When did the Ballon d’Or 2024 take place?

The much-anticipated 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony took take place on Monday, October 28, at 7.45 p.m. (GMT) at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony: Men’s trophy

The trophy has won by the greatest players since its inception. From Goalkeeper Lev Yashin to the father of football Cruyff, many greats have won it. There are some footballers who have won it on multiple occasion. Then there are others who are miles clear from others. Cristiano Ronaldo is 2nd on the list with 5 and Lionel Messi leading the chart with 9 Ballon d’ors.

While we have thought the crowning of Benzema is the new beginning, the Argentine done it again as he was crowned the winner last year. But with 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony, we have the new beginning. Both the Argentine and Portuguese will not be present this year. Here are the nominations:

Kopa Trophy Winner: Lamine Yamal

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal bags the 2024 Kopa Trophy award. The 17-year-old talented winger is the first U-18 player to win this award. Yamal, who was part of Spain’s Euro 2024 winning team, is the youngest-ever scorer for La Roja, achieving the feat at the age of 16. He also became the youngest scorer in El Clasico following his strike in the win against Real Madrid over the weekend.

Best Club (Women’s) Winner: Barcelona

Barcelona Femeni are the winners of the 2024 Best Women’s Club. They won the Liga F and UEFA Women’s Champions League in the 2023/24 season.

Best Club (Men’s) Winner: Real Madrid

Real Madrid are crowned the 2024 Best Men’s Club after a tremendous year. Led by manager Carlo Ancelotti, Real won the La Liga, Champions League and UEFA Super Cup last season. There is no one from Real’s camp to collect the award as the club announced that they will not attend the ceremony this year.

Gerd Muller Trophy Winner: Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe

We have joint-winners for the 2024 Gerd Muller Trophy, awarded to the best striker. Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane share the prize after both finishing the 2023-24 season with 52 goals for club and country. Kane, who was also Europe’s Golden Boot winner, collected the trophy while Mbappe was absent in the gala.

Yashin Trophy Winner: Emiliano Martinez

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez wins the Yashin Trophy for the second consecutive year. The 2022 World Cup winner helped Villa secure Champions League qualification last season and Argentina win the Copa America 2024. Emi Martinez has beaten the likes of Andriy Lunin, Mike Magnan, Unai Simon and Gianluigi Donnarumma for the prize. He was presented the award by his compatriot and Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, who is also a nominee for the Ballon d’Or Men’s Trophy.

Sokrates Trophy winner: Jennifer Hermoso

Spanish women’s footballer Jennifer Hermoso, who plays for Liga MX Femenil club Tigres UANL, is the 2024 Sokrates Trophy winner

Johan Cruyff Trophy (Women’s) Winner: Emma Hayes

The Johan Cruyff trophy (women’s), which is presented to the best coach of the year, is won by USA Women’s national team coach Emma Hayes.

Johan Cruyff Trophy (Men’s) Winner: Carlo Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti bags the best men’s coach of the year award after leading Real Madrid to the Champions League and La Liga titles in the 2023/24 season. Meanwhile, Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente misses out on the prize despite winning the Euro 2024.

Ballon d’Or Women’s Trophy Winner: Aitana Bonmati

Barcelona Femeni’s Aitana Bonmati is the 2024 Women’s Ballon d’Or winner, bagging the prize for the second consecutive year. Bonmati was an integral part of the FCB Femeni side that won the Liga F and Women’s Champions League last season.

Ballon d’Or Men’s Trophy Winner: Rodri

The much-awaited moment of the day finally arrives as Manchester City midfielder Rodri is named the 2024 men’s Ballon d’Or winner, pipping the Real Madrid trio Vinicius Junior, Dani Carvajal and Jude Bellingham for the most coveted prize. It was also a historic moment as Rodri became the first Spaniard since Luis Suarez in 1960 to win the award. The 28-year-old won the Premier League with Man City last season and the Euro 2024 with Spain.
