Real Madrid and Barcelona dominated the Spanish top flight equally during the 1950s. Yet, Barca registered one of the emphatic wins in the 1953/54 season in Clasico, thrashing Los Blancos 5-1. Despite the capital giants taking the lead through legendary Alfredo Di Stefano, The Catalans bounced back in style by adding five goals through Justo Tejada, Cesar, Moreno and Manchon. It was a payback to Barca’s defeat in the reverse fixture, though they finished second in the league at the end of the season.

Barcelona utterly dominated the first Clasico of the La Liga 2018/19, battering Real 5-1. The Catalans achieved it in the absence of Lionel Messi, as his close friend Luis Suarez rose to the occasion with a stellar hat-trick, thus joining an elite list of players with hat-tricks in the Clasico history. Philippe Coutino and Arturo Vidal also found the score sheet for the Blaugrana while Marcelo scored the only goal for Los Blancos. Barca, then led by Ernesto Valverde, went on to lift the league title that season; meanwhile, Real endured a turbulent campaign, marked by several managerial changes.

Next up is the most recent Clasico where Barcelona ripped apart Real 4-0. Following Los Blancos’ dominance in the previous few Clasicos, Barcelona gained back the bragging rights with aplomb, silencing the entire Santiago Bernabeu. Barca manager Hansi Flick masterminded Real’s undoing as his aggressive high-line and vertical style of play left the hosts high and dry. Robert Lewandowski topped the headlines with a stunning brace while Raphinha and Lamine Yamal added the finishing touch, with the latter’s strike marking his first in El Clasico. On the other hand, A Real side containing the likes of Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe were rendered powerless.

Los Merengues was one of the many teams that fell victim to Barca’s tiki-taka and total football. In the reverse fixture to the afore-mentioned Clasico in 1953/54, Real Madrid prevailed with an astounding 5-0 victory. Alfredo Di Stefano and Roque Olsen shone for Real while Barca weren’t allowed to make their mark at any point. Los Blancos would eventually win the Spanish first division that season.

After more than a decade of drought, Barcelona regained the hegemony in La Liga in the 1973-94 season, lifting the league title. In the Clasico held at Bernabeu, Barca hammered an inconsistent Real Madrid side 5-0. Football icon Johan Cruyff produced an impressive display with a goal, while Juan Manuel Asensi (brace), Hugo Sotil and Juan Carlos were also on target. Legendary Dutch manager Rinus Michels was pivotal in Barca’s resurgence.

Despite winning consecutive league titles from the start of the 90s, Barca’s dominance ended in the 1994-95 season, finishing fourth in La Liga. Barca also found themselves at the receiving end in the league Clasico at Bernabeu, getting thrashed 5-0 by Real Madrid. Ivan Zamorano was the star of the show with a hat-trick. Luis Enrique and Amavisca were the other scorers.

Arguably the best team in the history of football, Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona were at the peak of their powers in the 2010/11 season, thrashing every team that came in their way with their slick passing game. Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid stood no chance in the Clasico at Camp Nou, with Barca registering an emphatic 5-0 win. Xavi, Pedro, David Villa and Jeffran joined the goal fest while Lionel Messi’s playmaking was on another level, setting up Villa’s two goals. Besides the league title, Barca went on to defeat Manchester United in the finals of the Champions League.
