Previously, it was revealed that a deal had been reached with the Sporting boss Ruben Amorim, It is now a confirmed deal. The Portuguese tactician will be taking charge as Manchester United manager to replace Erik Ten Hag until June 2027. Earlier, Manchester United reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to appoint Amorim, United are going to pay his €11 million (£9.5) million release clause and Amorim has signed the deal with the Premier League club.
The Sporting Club manager might be young in age but he has impressed one and all in the way he has restored Sporting to the top of the Portuguese game. Interestingly, the Portuguese manager will also be the youngest football manager in Manchester United’s managerial history. This follows a trend of Premier League managers getting younger and younger.
Before the Manchester United saga, the Portuguese manager was linked to a variety of Premier League jobs in the past including Liverpool and West Ham United earlier this summer. Interestingly, many in Portugal and England believed that the 39-year-old was being groomed to take over at Manchester City after Pep Guardiola.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Ruben Amorim has signed a two-year deal with an option to extend further seasons, the deal has been announced following intense negotiation between the Premier League and the Portuguese club.
Strong portfolio for the Old Trafford job
The 39-year-old has been quite influential in the Sporting’s success in recent times. The new Manchester United hierarchy didn’t waste any time in search of a manager deemed fit for their club’s success and future after poor performances in the past few seasons. Ten Hag was recently sacked after United continued their terrible start to the season. United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy has taken charge on an interim basis and he is expected to still be on the sidelines when United take on Chelsea on the 3rd of November.
Amorim has won plenty of plaudits for his time at Sporting. He has won the Portuguese League and Portuguese League Cup twice each, and the Portuguese Super Cup. The 39-year-old has only lost one game in all competitions this season, winning 12, and drawing one. However, the main question marks remain about his pressing strategies. That being said, Amorim is good at man management. Current United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has already played under him at Sporting.
