Manchester United to kickstart their Indian football journey from Chennai

One of the most popular English Premier League clubs in India, Manchester United are reportedly planning to set its feet in India by establishing world-class training facilities in Tamil Nadu, India. According to the Business Standard report, the English giants are aiming to leverage its massive fanbase in India which is estimated to be around 35 million in numbers. Therefore, the Red Devils are trying to maximize their popularity in the South Asian country.

Reportedly, a team comprised of top club members of the Premier League club met a delegation of the Tamil Nadu industry team during the World Economic Forum Annual WEF) Meeting 2025 at Klosters-Serneus in Switzerland and discussed the possibility of founding football centres in the Tamil Nadu state of India.

The capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai is most likely to be the location for Manchester United’s upcoming training hotspot. A source close to the development revealed, “Manchester United is exploring the prospect of bringing global standards of football training to Tamil Nadu, especially for women, highlighting the state’s emerging status as a global sports hub.”

Notably, Several European clubs have collaborated with Indian football clubs across ISL and I-League for Grassroots developments, strategic partnerships and expanding their global reach and commercial aspects. However, it is said that Manchester United’s venture of stepping onto Indian soil by opening a training facility is one of its kind, unlike any other European and Indian club partnership in the recent past.
