Rodrygo, Militao, Vazquez; Real Madrid's injury list extends

Real Madrid Injury Woes: Rodrygo & Vazquez duo ruled out formMonth

The poor run of misfortune continues to haunt defending La Liga and UEFA Champions League champions Real Madrid. The side was already struggling with a list of injuries and losses, and now after the league game against CA Osasuna, three more players have been subbed off with injury troubles. The players are: Rodrygo, Eder Militao, and Lucas Vazquez.

In their 12th game of La Liga 2024-25, Real Madrid was finding back to winning ways from the first half itself, after the haunting loss in El Clasico. However, the victorious results weren’t joyous, as the club witnessed three more forced subs for injuries.

What happened with Rodrygo and Lucas Vazquez?

It all started in the 20th minute when the winger got subbed. He just came after being fit from his hamstring injury, which made him miss the El Clasico. Just after his comeback, facing injury he will go back to the revival process again. Real Madrid has confirmed that Rodrygo will be sidelined until December due to injury, following tests conducted today.

The club issued a statement on their Brazilian winger’s injury stating, “Following the tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the rectus femoris of his left leg. Pending evolution.”

Things turned worse in the second half, captain Lucas Vazquez from the right had to be subbed for Luka Modric, and this wasn’t a tactical move either. Vazquez’s injury is another concern, as this leaves no natural right-back to guard the fence.

“Following tests carried out today on our player Lucas Vazquez by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the long adductor muscle of his left leg. Pending evolution.” the club added after running tests on Spanish International, Vazquez.

Consequently, The key duo of Los Blancos will be sidelined for at least of month of period joining their teammate Éder Militão in the treatment room. Militao, the centre back had suffered an ACL setback in the same game and was stretched off which suggests his season is already over.

How will the injuries affect Real Madrid’s season?

Real Madrid were already dealing with a lot of injuries in their first team. They had their first-choice goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, centre-back David Alaba, right-back Daniel Carvajal, defensive midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni out for a long, along with winger Rodrygo who returned after a couple of weeks and got injured again.

Now, having Eder Militao, and Lucas Vazquez out will mean that they will suffer a crisis in fielding natural defenders in their position. The defence looks completely crumbled now. Not having Rodrygo will also be a big blow, as he was an important piece of their attacking puzzle, and without him, the team seemed clueless in attack in the past two weeks.

With Militao out for the rest of the season, Real Madrid will have only two natural centre-backs: Antonio Rüdiger, and Jesus Vallejo. Now, even if one of them is absent, the gaps in the centre of the defence would cause plenty of goals against them. Rodrygo staying out till December will mean miss of quality attack and chance of scoring against giants like Liverpool in the Champions League, and Athletic Club Bilbao and Girona FC in the Spanish top tier.
