Southampton vs Swansea Preview

  • Tournament: FA Cup 2024-25 Third Round
  • Date: Sunday, January 12, 2025
  • Time: 4:30 pm GMT
  • Venue: St. Mary’s Stadium

Southampton will host Swansea City at St. Mary’s Stadium in their third-round clash in the FA Cup on Sunday. It is expected to be a good match with both sides arguably evenly matched.

Southampton have had a terrible 2024-25 campaign so far after returning to the Premier League. They have managed just one win with three draws and 16 defeats in 20 league games and sit at the bottom of the table with six points. They are, more or less, guaranteed to get relegated this season. They reached the EFL Cup quarter-finals though, where they were eliminated by Liverpool.

Swansea City, meanwhile, are 11th in the EFL Championship standings after 26 games. They have won nine, drawn seven and lost 10 league games and sit just four points away from the playoff spot. They were eliminated in the second round of the EFL Cup this season by Wycombe.

Southampton vs Swansea Prediction

Both sides haven’t offered a lot of promise this season but Southampton certainly have been worse off. They last won a match in November when they beat Everton 1-0 in the Premier League on November 2.

The Saints have lost nine of their 11 matches since, drawing the other two. They have five defeats and one draw in their last five games. They lost 2-1 against Liverpool in the EFL Cup quarter-finals. They then drew 0-0 against Fulham before losing 1-0 against West Ham, 2-1 against Crystal Palace and 5-0 against Brentford.

Swansea, meanwhile, have two wins, three defeats and one draw in their last six games. They lost 2-1 against Hull City before beating QPR 3-0 and Luton Town 2-1. They then lost 4-0 against Portsmouth and drew 1-1 against West Brom.

Both sides will be keen to progress in the FA Cup and it’s likely to be a thrilling match. However, Southampton should be able to prevail due to their home advantage.

Predicted Score: Southampton 2-1 Swansea
