Tottenham Hotspur will host AZ Alkmaar in their third UEFA Europa League 2024-25 campaign. The two sides have had varying starts to their campaign and will look to get three points on Thursday.
Spurs have won both of their matches in the Europa League so far. They first beat Qarabag 3-0 at home despite being down to 10 men in the seventh minute. They then beat Ferencvaros 2-1 away from home. They sit third in the points table, only behind Lazio and Lyon on goal difference.
AZ Alkmaar, meanwhile, are 18th with three points. They beat IF Elfsborg 3-2 at home in their opening game of the Europa League 2024-25 season but then lost 2-0 against Athletic Bilbao away from home. They are among six teams with three points in the competition this season and will look to add to their tally on Thursday.
Tottenham Team News
Tottenham will likely be without winger Wilson Odobert. The Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury in September and is expected to be back later this week or next week.

AZ Alkmaar will be without Bruno Martins Indi, Lequincio Zeefuik, and Mexx Meerdink for the clash due to their respective injuries. Meanwhile, Lewis Schouten, Sem Westerverld, and Wouter Goes are a doubt for the match and could feature on the bench.

Key Players to watch in Tottenham vs AZ Alkmaar
Timo Werner
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has mostly chosen to play a rotated side in cup competitions. Hence, Timo Werner is likely to start over Son Heung-min against AZ Alkmaar.
Spurs signed Werner on a six-month loan from RB Leipzig in January 2024. After a decent stint at the club, his loan was extended for another year in the summer. The German has put in good performances but has lacked the final product.
Werner has registered just one assist in nine games across competitions this season, missing numerous big chances to score or assist. He will be keen to put in a productive shift against AZ Alkmaar and get his confidence back up.
Troy Parrott
For AZ Alkmaar, all eyes will be on Troy Parrott. The 22-year-old striker came through Tottenham’s academy but could only make four senior appearances for them. He spent most of his time out on loan at the likes of Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Excelsior, and more.
He finally left Spurs on a permanent basis this summer to join AZ Alkmaar. He’s scored six goals in 11 games across competitions for them so far. This will be the first time he returns to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face his boyhood club.
Parrott will certainly get a good reception but he’ll also be keen to score against his former side.
Tottenham vs AZ Alkmaar Prediction
Tottenham have won both of their UEFA Europa League games so far. They have won six out of their last seven games across competitions and hammered West Ham United 4-1 at home in the Premier League in their last match.
AZ Alkmaar, meanwhile, are on a four-game losing streak. They lost 2-1 against PSV Eindhoven at home in their last match. The Dutch side are fifth in the Eredivisie with five wins, one draw, and three defeats. They will be keen to get back to form on Thursday.
Spurs have generally chosen to rotate their squad in cup competitions which could potentially help AZ Alkmaar. However, the hosts have everyone back from injury except Wilson Odobert. Hence, if required, they could call on the likes of Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski off the bench.
Tottenham should, therefore, secure a comfortable win and all three points against AZ Alkmaar.
Predicted Score: Tottenham 3-0 AZ Alkmaar
