Anderlecht 2-2 Porto Player Ratings: Anderlecht maintain their unbeaten run after a thrilling draw

Anderlecht secured a thrilling 2-2 draw against Porto in the UEFA Europa League group-stage game, extending their unbeaten run in the competition. Anderlecht were put on the back foot early after Tristan Degreef conceded a penalty. Henderson Galeno made no mistake from the spot to open the account for the visitors. But the lead was cancelled shortly after the break when Pepe’s error near the penalty box led to Degreef’s equaliser. Porto seemed to have pulled off a surprise after substitute Fabio Vieiara ran through a lethargic Anderlecht’s defence to score a brilliant strike. However, the Portuguese giants were pegged back by Francis Amuzu’s thunderous strike from the left-hand side minutes before the end of the normal time.

As a result, Porto have moved to fourth in the Europa League standings with 11 points whereas Porto find themselves in a lowly 19th position with just 5 points.

Goalkeeper

Colin Coosemans: 5/10 – Couldn’t save the penalty but made a vital claim against Pepe’s cross by rushing off the line. However, he couldn’t stand a chance against Amuzu’s thunderous effort

Defenders

Moussa N’Diaye: 7/10 – Ndiaye shone for larger spells with his impressive defending while setting up Amuzu’s strike. However, he nearly had a terrible moment in the dying minutes when Borges ran past him into the penalty box but much to his relief, there was no big consequence.

Jan-Carlo Simic: 6/10 – Kept Omorodion at bay squeezing him up and winning duels against him. His long-balls were also excellent

Mathias Jorgensen: 5/10 – Guarded the defence brilliantly and made a fine intervention against Omorodion in the first half. But should have done better to prevent Vieira from scoring.

Thomas Foket: 5/10 – Focused more on the defensive end rather than venturing forward. Involved in 7 defensive actions and was also aerially strong

Midfielders

Mario Stroeykens: 5/10 – Had a great game but got switched off when Vieira scored Porto’s second goal.

Mats Rits: 6/10 – Saw his header hit the woodwork but soon played a big role in the equaliser. Won the ball from Pepe before squaring it to Degreef.

Leander Dendoncker: 5/10 – Had a go at the goal from outside the box but it was finely palmed away by Costa.

Attackers

Samuel Edozie: 5/10 -Had a good game until he was replaced around the hour mark due to an injury scare.

Tristan Degreef: 7/10 – Conceding the penalty was the only blip in an otherwise excellent display. Provided a couple of dangerous crosses into the penalty box, including the one which was headed into the crossbar by Rits. Produced a brilliant finish off Rits’ assist and proved too hot to handle for Porto defenders

Kasper Dolberg: 4/10 – A quiet evening for his standards. Failed to control a promising cross from Degreef

Substitutes

Francis Amuzu: 6/10 – Rattled Porto’s defence from the very moment he came on and scored a belter at the death.

Manager

David Hubert: 6/10 – A result not to be proud of but rather a wake-up. The game could have gone in anyone’s favour and Huber needs to instruct his players to control the game and avoid lapses. The introduction of Amuzu paid off as he scored the late equaliser.

Diego Costa: 4/10 – Had no chance against thunderous efforts from Degreef and Amuzu

Defenders

Francisco Moura: 5/10 – Won the penalty in the first place ahead of Porto’s opener but clearly struggled in the final stages

Otavio: 6/10 – Commanded the backline impressively and also showcased a great recovery pace, but unfortunately, Amzu’s strike took a huge deflection off him before finding the nets

Nehuen Perez: 6/10 – The Argentine put his heart out to guard the defence to an extent. Thwarted potential threats with great defensive work.

Joao Mario: 5/10 – Was hauled off at halftime after receiving a yellow card. Also suffered a knock midway through.

Midfielders

Stephen Eustaquio: 6/10 – Made some dangerous runs into the box and was involved in some promising sequences played by Porto

Nico Gonzalez: 6/10 – Showed great ball-winning capabilities and also the desire to shoot from long-range

Alan Varela: 6/10 – Played some impressive long balls from the deep and tidied up the midfield with his defensive efforts

Attackers

Pepe: 3/10 – Was robbed of the possession near Porto’s penalty box due to some aimless carrying and deservingly punished by Degreef for the equaliser

Wenderson Galeno: 7/10 – Converted the penalty calmly but fired his shot a whisker wide from outside the penalty box

Samu Omorodion: 4/10 – A lacklustre evening for the Spanish prodigy, who failed to overcome Anderlecht’s defenders. His touches were rather unconvincing as well.

Substitutes

Martim Fernandes: 4/10 – Failed to prevent Amuzu from triggering his strike

Fabio Vieira: 5/10 – Nearly pulled off a win for Porto by scoring a brilliant strike the very next minute he came on.

Goncalo Borges: N/A – Had the chance to stun Anderlecht in dying seconds after carrying the ball into the box but was let down by his tame shot.

Victor Bruno: 4/10 – Another damaging result which extended Porto’s woes in Europe. Bruno’s men had the lead on different occasions but some defensive lapses and the lack of aggression hampered them.
