Sitting in the 4th position in the League table, the Lions looked forward to get the best of their momentum. Unai Emery’s influence have been intimidating to many clubs they have faced so far. And it is true whether we talk about the League Fixtures or European nights.
A 1-1 draw in Saturday’s fixture was all late-minute drama. The recent win against Bologna gave Villa the perfect boost before today’s fixture against Bournemouth. Sitting right along Arsenal with same points in the table, The Lions had the team morale and the belief of a comfortable win leading up to the match.
While there have been many talks of the leadership of Unai Emery, so far the results within the League and the extended format of Champions League have proven to demonstrate why Unai is the perfect fit for this club.
Because of the booking taken by the winger Jaden Philogene against Fulham on their last fixture, the 22 year old was not present for today’s fixture against Bournemouth. Prior to the match, Amadou Onana was supposed to fill in the shoes for the winger for their fixture against Bournemouth. Fans were expecting Ollie Watkins to start against Duran.
If we take a look at the records, the Cherries had a good run against the Lions from 2016 to 2022. However, in the last 3 matches between the clubs, they have taken just 1 point. The game started rather well with good pace. Both of team were in the attacking form. Bournemouth seemed to have the upper hand until first half where the spent a lot of time in Villa’s half. But no end product. On the other hand, the Lions looked good whenever they went forward. The match was goalless at the end of first half.
The goal came in from Emery’s super sub Barkley who awkwardly guided the ball in with his shin. It was the difference maker of this entertaining fixture on Saturday. But that was until Evanilson headed it past Dibu to score the equalizer.

Goalkeeper
Martinez (6.5/10)
Was very busy throughout the match and made many good saves, especially when the Cherries were on the front foot attacking Villa again and again.
Defenders
Cash (5.5/10)
Gave the dependable performance today! The fans appreciated it for sure.
Konsa (6/10)
Pretty average defensive play from the centre-back. Had a cracking shot at the ending minutes of the first half which was saved by Kepa.
Torres (6/10)
Average display from the defender when the Aston Villa defence line went forward. However, was reliable throughout the match when he had to defend.
Digne (6/10)
Got substituted in the 70th minute. Digne was busy throughout the match and very active when the Lions moved forward.
Midfielders
Tielemans (6.5/10)
Played a couple clever passes. However, there were times when the Belgians read the movements wrong.
McGinn (6/10)
His goal was disallowed. Played rather well throughout the match. Got substituted on the 70th minute along with Digne.
Onana (6.5/10)
A great partner to Tielemans. Pretty good with feet as expected. He was the main man in the midfield today. Got subbed later on.
Rogers (5.5/10)
Was not at all impactful as he would have wished. Got substituted later on.
Ramsey (5.5/10)
Up until the last minute, he did pretty much what he was supposed to. Looked sharp as he should be.
Forwards
Watkins (5/10)
Looked out of touch. Was not as much involved as he aspired to be. The Villa fans expected more from the Englishman. Got subbed off at the 80th minute.
Substitutions
Bailey (5/10)
Not as impactful as he would’ve wished to be. Did well to pass the ball to Duran for an open net, which he missed.
Duran (4/10)
Should have scored in the 74th minute after the goal opened up to him from the Bailey pass.
Barkley (6/10)
The ex-Chelsea man scored the goal in the 76th minute to give Villa the lead and break the Bournemouth resistance.
Kamara (4/10)

By this point, it is expected that the manager to make the magic subs that change the course of the game. Looked very sharp!

Goalkeeper
Kepa (6/10)
Other than the disallowed goal, he pretty much looked sharp until 1st half.
Defenders
Smith (5/10)
Got booked in the first half. Forced the hand of the Cherries’ manager to sub him off and bring in Araujo.
Zabarnyi (5/10)
Tried his best to stop the Ross Barkley goal. But it was way out of his reach. Played well otherwise.
Kerkez (5.5/10)
Pretty active on the attacking front. Rather average defensive performance, but that was all the defenders of Bournemouth today. Got subbed later on.
Senesi (5/10)
Did his best to fend off the Villa players until the Ross Barkley goal. Was good when the team was in the front foot too.
Midfielders
Cook (5.5/10)
Gave the Cherries the push that they needed for the fixture against Emery’s team. No quality end product from his attacking mids.
Christie (5/10)
Needed to be the main man for the Cherries today. But his adequate performance was just not enough. Got subbed in later for Adams.
Semenyo (5/10)
Wanted to equalize and looked so desperate to push the team forward. But the team’s lack of quality deliveries surely made him disappointed.
Kluivert (6.5/10)
Looked very threatning in the first half. However, the deliveries could have been way better. Got subbed later on.
Ouattara (5/10)
Been the puzzle piece that should have completed multiple attacking breakouts. The midfielder needs to work on his delivery.
Forward
Unal (5/10)
An average performance by the Cherries’ forward. Eventually got substituted for Evanilson. And rightfully so!
Substitutions
Araujo (6/10)
Came in place of Smith in the first half after he was booked.
Evanilson (5/10)
Got subbed in for Unal. Almost scored a goal on the box but got the ball taken away by the Villa defender. Scored the equalizer.
Adams (4/10)
David Brooks (4/10)
Tavernier (4.5/10)
Manager
Andoni Iraola (4.5/10)
Was not the performance he expected. The manager would have wanted better from his players. Got saved by his substitution Evanilson.
