Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings

Crystal Palace 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings as Postecoglou’s men stunned by the hosts

Tottenham Hotspur’s impressive form hit a stumbling block after suffering a shock 1-0 defeat against bottom-dwellers Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Spurs were deemed the favourites due to Palace’s poor form this season but as it turned out, the hosts overwhelmed the North Londoners with a spirited effort. Jean Philippe-Mateta opened the scoring for the Eagles after he fired home Eberiche Eze’s impressive back-heel flick.

Spurs failed to create any inspiration for the rest of the game and Mateta’s first-half strike sealed a much-needed win as well as the first win of the season for Oliver Glasner’s side. Ange Postecoglou’s men showcased a lacklustre attacking display as they were held back by Palace’s strong defence. The victory has taken Crystal Palace squad out of the relegation zone to the 17th position while Spurs are eighth in the table.

Goalkeeper

Dean Henderson: 7/10 – Palmed away a close-range effort from Maddison and his long balls also caused some problems for the visitors. Collected Werner’s cross with a great composure in added time.

Defenders

Marc Guehi: 7/10 – Guehi produced an exceptional performance and was aerially dominant, making 4 headed clearances.

Maxence Lacroix: 7/10 – Lacroix proved to be a nuisance to Spurs with his remarkable defending skills. Powered off Richarlison from taking advantage of a through-ball and cleared away a pass from Solanke towards the end

Trevoh Chalobah: 7/10 Alongside Guehi and Lacroix, Chalobah raised a defensive wall to keep Spurs at bay. Hardly put a wrong with his act, winning 8 duels and 3 tackles

Midfielders

Daniel Munoz: 7/10 – Dangerous with his crossing. Forced a mistake from Van de Ven before whipping in a great cross, which was then flicked by Eze to set up Mateta. Munoz was also clinical with his tackles. The wing-back was more vibrant in the second half and all of Palace’s dangerous attacking sequences came from him.

Adam Wharton: 7/10 Wharton oozed class with his press resistance and silky passing skills while being robust. Delivered a brilliant ball to Eze, whose goal was deemed offside. Also forced a huge save from Vicario with his weak foot from outside the box.

Jefferson Lerma: 3/10 – Was replaced in the 22nd minute with an injury

Tyrick Mitchell: 6/10 – Put in a great defensive effort to contain Johnson.

Attackers

Eberiche Eze: 7/10 – His flamboyance and trickery were evident throughout the game and on top of that, he set up Mateta’s strike with a brilliant back-heel flick. Also had a wonderful goal ruled out offside.

Ismaila Sarr: 5/10 – Sarr’s struggles continued this season and his lack of confidence was blatant. Had a great chance in counter-attack but his lame pass ruined it.

Jean Philippe-Mateta: 7/10 – Seized his chance upon his return to the starting 11. Looked a bit rusty at the start but buried home a great strike from close range, showcasing his in-box instincts.

Substitutes

Will Hughes: 7/10 – Hughes was lively from the moment he entered the pitch. Created 4 chances and delivered 9 passes into the final third.

Daichi Kamada: N/A

Eddie Nketiah: N/A

Manager

Oliver Glasner: 8/10 – Glasner would be pleased with the result after outperforming a top team like Spurs with his great tactics. A formidable defence with a direct style of play shook up the visitors.

Micky van de Ven: 4/10 Made a terrible mistake by getting robbed of the possession in the defensive third which eventually resulted in Mateta’s goal.

Cristian Romero: 7/10 – The Argentine was at his usual best despite the defeat. Clocked up the most passes in the game, made 6 recoveries and won 4 tackles.

Pedro Porro: 6/10 – The Portuguese right-back created 1 big chance in the first half and made a great through ball to Richarlison in the later stages but failed to block Mateta’s goal.

Midfielders

Yves Bissouma: 5/10 Bissouma was constantly unsettled by Palace’s enormous pressing. Was completely off-colour.

James Maddison: 5/10 – Missed a glorious chance from close range, which was denied by Henderson’s save.

Dejan Kulusevski: 5/10 – The Swede was industrious throughout the game but failed to make an impact on the offensive end. Could have done better with his chance, which was saved by Henderson

Attackers

Mikey Moore: 5/10 – A quiet evening for the 17-year-old in his first start of the season. Nevertheless, he linked up well with Udogie and made a few incisive passes.

Brennan Johnson: 4/10 – Johnson was nullified by Palace defenders for larger spells. Failed to create any sort of inspiration in a lacklustre attacking display from the Lilywhites

Dominic Solanke: 4/10 – Became more involved towards the end but failed to create a big impact.

Substitutes

Richarlison: 3/10 – Richarlison had a handful of opportunities to pull off the equaliser but everything went in vain.

Pape Matar Sarr: N/A

Timo Werner: N/A

Rodrigo Bentancur: N/A

Manager

Ange Postecoglou: 4/10 – Postecoglou will cut a frustrated figure after such a poor result against a struggling team. The North Londoners were outclassed on every front and their complacency will be a huge concern.
