Inter Milan 4-4 Juventus Player Ratings as Kenan Yıldız brace rescues Juve in a thrilling standoff

Quite possibly one of the biggest games of the season in Serie A, Inter Milan vs Juventus turned out to be a much more hotly contested affair than what many expected. With both teams eyeing a move to the top of the table and looking to keep pace with Napoli, the match had a lot on the line. Whilst Inter opened the scoring thanks to a penalty, it was Juventus’ progressive patterns of play and aggression that saw them claw back two goals before the end of the first half.

However, it was not to be as Inter would restore their lead with two quickfire goals of their own. Keeping in pace with the first half, the Nerazzurri would go on to add another, seemingly killing off the game. Unfortunately, their confidence was unfounded as a brace from Yıldız put the game up for contention again in the final minutes.

All in all, the match made for a very watchable contest and one that will be a game-of-the-season contender for sure. With everything said and done, Juventus showed great character to come back despite unfortunate setbacks, whilst Inter will be left scratching their heads as to how they let such a game slip away.

Goalkeeper

Yann Sommer: 6/10- Was slightly unlucky with the goals in the first half, but should certainly have done more for the ones in the second half. A very average performance from him, as he once again struggles to be consistent.

Defenders

Alessandro Bastoni: 6/10- Quite possibly one of his poorest performances in quite some time. Was put on his backside and really struggled to keep up with Conceição.

Stefan de Vrij: 6.5/10- Possibly the best out of a bad bunch today, but not by too much. Could have dealt better with the crosses coming in in the first half.
Benjamin Pavard: 6/10- Like his defensive mates, an average performance considering the circumstances, but could quite possibly have done better if left on during Juve’s comeback goals.

Midfielders

Federico Dimarco: 7/10- Played his standard game, running the left channel and looking for any opportunity to deliver a dangerous cross. Could have done more defensively, even though it’s not his main game.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan: 7/10- Was instrumental in bringing his team back into the game after the initial shock. Played a brilliant one-two with Thuram and took his goal extremely well.

Piotr Zieliński:7/10-  A relatively easy day at the office for him, Zieliński played slightly deeper than usual. Took both his penalties well and didn’t look too hassled during the time he was on the field.

Nicolò Barella: 6.5/10- Had a busy day in the heart of midfield and was at times a little uncomfortable playing out. Got stuck in defensively when he needed to and tried to contribute further up the field as well.

Denzel Dumfries: 7/10- Ran his channel well and did well to drop back when needed. Could likely have done better at the back but made up for it with a goal and won a penalty as well.

Attackers

Lautaro Martínez: 5.5/10- After being almost anonymous in the first half, the captain finally showed up in the second half, getting more involved and bringing others into the game.
Marcus Thuram: 8/10- A good performance from the Frenchman who was a menace in the Juve defense. Put himself about, winning a penalty and setting up Mkhitaryan with some silky link-up play.

Substitutes

Yann Bisseck: 6/10- Did not make a strong case for himself when he came on. Was not directly a fault for any of the goals, but could have certainly done better to keep things tighter at the back.

Davide Frattesi: N/A

Matteo Darmian: N/A

Mehdi Taremi: N/A

Manager

Simone Inzaghi: 7/10- Although things initially panned out in his favor, a little more care and attention to detail could have saved the late comeback from Juve. Will certainly be disappointed with how the game slipped away at the end.

Goalkeeper

Michele Di Gregorio: 7/10- Despite the circumstances did his best to keep things from getting too bad. Made a couple of very smart and crucial saves to keep the game within reach.

Defenders

Andrea Cambiaso: 7/10- The most resolute of the entire backline. Did well to deal with danger and gave his winger an outlet on a lot of occasions.

Danilo: 5.5/10- A rather poor showing from the captain, who started the game with too much aggression, and cost his team a penalty early on and picked up a booking in the second half. Likely why Motta chose to replace him in the closing stages.

Pierre Kalulu: 5.5/10- Equally as poor as his center-back partner, Kalulu had more than a few questionable moments, especially with the rather silly penalty he gave away.
Juan Cabal: 6/10- Did well to find McKennie, who in turn set up Vlahovic. Whilst he showed good pace and energy in attack, Cabal definitely struggled to keep pace with his opposite number on the left flank.

Midfielders

Manuel Locatelli: 6.5/10- Tried to dictate play from deep but was often overwhelmed by the Inter Milan midfield. Did his best to try and find his wide men as much as possible, and got stuck in defensively as well.

Nicolò Fagioli: 6/10- Struggled to find his footing in the frantic game and really put together anything off substance. Urged to further the play in a more creative role, he clearly wasn’t at his best.
Weston McKennie:7/10- Very lively and up for the contest that ensued. Was willing to run the extra mile to try and get something for his team and did very well to assist Vlahovic for the first goal, and another in the second half.

Attackers

Timothy Weah: 6/10- Popped up with an important goal when his team really needed it, Weah showed great awareness and positioning for his goal. That said, he quickly went missing thereafter and his replacement really made that known.

Dušan Vlahović: 7/10- Did well to take his goal and showed a lot of grit and fight to battle away at the Inter defense. Needed to pose a bigger threat than he did for a lot of the second half.

Francisco Conceição: 8/10- Bright, energetic, and the second-best player for Juve on the night. Kept threatening the Milan defense with his darting and mazy runs, one of which helped find Weah’s goal.

Substitutes

Nicolò Savona: 7/10- Did well to come and try to create a little more for the team. Mainly occupied the right side and nearly put one on the plate for his teammates.

Kenan Yıldız: 9/10- Impact player personified. Grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and put up two goals within 20 minutes of coming on. A real talent and beginning to show more of his potential with each game.

Federico Gatti: N/A

Samuel Mbangula: N/A

Khéphren Thuram: N/A

Manager

Thiago Motta: 7/10- Despite the circumstances, held his nerve and made good substitutions. Will need to sort some of his personnel out if he intends to be in a title race moving forward.
