Liverpool have done it again at Anfield and taken all three points from their match against Brighton & Hove Albion. The Reds needed to come from behind and quickfire goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah did the trick for them as they moved back to the top of the Premier League table.
Ferdi Kadıoğlun scored a stunning goal to give Brighton the early lead in the match and the Seagulls could have gone into the break with a couple more. However, the away sides missed their golden chances and that saw the Reds remain in the match.
Liverpool came out hungry for all three points in the second half and did the job. Gakpo scored the equalizer in the 69th minute before Salah continued his hot streak against Brighton and made it 2-1 three minutes later. Arne Slot’s side held on to the lead until the end and made it 25 points from their opening 10 matches under the new manager in the Premier League.
Liverpool player ratings vs Brighton:
Goalkeeper
Caoimhin Kelleher – 6: Made 4 saves in the game, including a crucial one when they were trailing 1-0, but still should have done a lot more today. He was unable to command the box and Liverpool will be hoping that Alisson is back soon.
Defenders
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7: Decent defensively, but his main role today was creating chances. Brighton managed to keep him quiet for the majority of the match and that saw Liverpool struggle up front.
Ibrahima Konaté – 6: Played just the 45 minutes as he had to come off injured. The defender seems to have picked up a shoulder injury and could be out for a while.
Virgil van Dijk – 6: Not his best performance today as he was finding it hard against Rutter and Welbeck. He still held his ground and will be credited for his ‘assist’ that led to Gakpo’s goal.
Konstantinos Tsimikas – 8.5: Almost got knocked out cold by Van Dijk but still managed to put in a brilliant performance. The left-back was easily the man of the match today and showed the Reds that he can be the #1 over Robertson.
Midfielders
Ryan Gravenberch – 7: Another solid display from the Dutchman for Liverpool and he has started to show why Jurgen Klopp wanted him. The former Ajax man has regained his form from the Eredivisie days and is becoming a key part of the side.
Alexis Mac Allister – 6: Not at his best today and was struggling after a run-in with a Brighton player early in the first half. Liverpool fans will be hoping that he stops losing possession as often as he does as it is leading to a lot of counter attacks.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 5: Lost half of his duels and was unable to get a single shot away in the match. He was slow, committing fouls, and mostly uninvolved in the game.
Forwards
Mohamed Salah – 7.5: Brighton is touted to be his second-favourite opponent in the league and he has shown why. The Egyptian was not involved a lot, but when he got the ball in the second half, he scored the all-important goal.
Cody Gakpo – 7: A cross led to a goal and he will take it. The Dutchman was brilliant in the final third and ensured that the Reds did not miss Diaz or Jota.
Darwin Núñez – 6.5: Decent match for the Uruguayan, but he was just not able to get his shots away. Made Bart Verbruggen pull off a brilliant save in the first half, but that was his only contribution in the match.

Brighton player ratings vs Liverpool
Goalkeeper
Bart Verbruggen – 7.5: Should have done a lot better for the Cody Gakpo goal, but the shot from Mo Salah was just too good.
Defenders
Joël Veltman – 6: Found it hard against Gakpo and Tsimikas when the Liverpool duo combined. He was just not able to get on par with his teammates’ efforts today.
Jan Paul van Hecke – 7: Won all his ground duels and helped Darwin Nunez quiet in the whole match.
Igor Júlio – 7: Solid performance from the Brazilian and he is slowly getting into the groove. Not long before he gets shouted as one of the most underrated players in the league.
Pervis Estupiñán – 6: Decent going forward but nothing special defensively. He was unable to do much against Salah despite the Liverpool man having an off game.
Midfielders
Ferdi Kadıoğlu – 7: Scored an excellent goal while playing as the right-midfielder today and should have made it 2-0 in the first half itself.
Jack Hinshelwood – 6.5: He was here and there but always available to help out the defenders. He stayed back and helped the Brighton players handle Nunez and Szobozlai.
Yasin Ayari – 8: Easily the best performance from a Brighton player today. He was controlling the game for them and showed why he is highly-rated.
Forwards
Kaoru Mitoma – 6: Kept trying to create chances but just not enough today. He failed to have a single shot on target but did well to beat his man.
Georginio Rutter – 6: Should have scored from the chance in the first half and that would have changed the game completely. But he shot straight at Kelleher and that helped Liverpool come back in the game.
Danny Welbeck – 7: Was ready to shoot at every chance but just not enough to get a goal. He got the assist for their goal, but it was all down to the finish and had nothing to do with the pass.
