Manchester United vs Brighton Player Ratings: Mitoma and Minteh Star, Onana and Red Devils Struggle in 3-1 Defeat

Manchester United have lost at home to Brighton & Hove Albion again. The Red Devils were beaten 3-1 today by the Seagulls, who scored twice in the second half after a 1-1 scoreline in the first half.

Brighton have now won each of their last three visits to Old Trafford, and they have come under three different managers and with 33 different players in the starting XI.

Manchester United player ratings vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Andre Onana – 5: Should done better for all the goals they conceded. The third goal was a gift from the goalkeeper and there was nothing for Brighton there when he spilled the ball and created the chance for them.

Defenders

Matthijs de Ligt – 6.5: Did well in the backline today and handled Mitoma well. Also managed to keep Danny Welbeck quiet.

Harry Maguire – 6.5: Calm at the back and kept closing down the Brighton forwards. He commanded the backline today.

Lenny Yoro – 6: Another performance to forget for the youngster as he was having trouble dealing with Minteh and Joao Pedro.

Midfielders

Noussair Mazraoui – 6: He was chasing Mitoma most of the game and never looked comfortable against the Japanese start. He won just one duel today and suffered until he was taken off.

Manuel Ugarte – 6: Never managed to get into the game and was chasing the ball for over an hour. He was covering for Mazraoui most of the time as the right back needed help.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6: He too was just chasing the ball and never looked comfortable in the game. Managed to win just two of his ground duels today and kept losing the ball.  

Diogo Dalot – 7: He was up and down the left flank today but never looked like he was making an impact and either end of the pitch. He just could not link up well in the final third today.

Amad Diallo – 7.5: Showed his class again but never managed to get close to the goal today. He had just one shot today and failed to get it on target.

Bruno Fernandes – 7: He got the goal for Manchester United to bring them back in the game, but that was it. He was misplacing most of his forward passes were wayward and he failed to create a clear-cut chance.

Forwards

Joshua Zirkzee – 7: Did not get taken off in the first time today, but his performance was no better. He failed to get any shot on target despite playing 84 minutes.

Ruben Amorim – 7: He got most of the things right, but the players failed to deliver today.

Brighton & Hove Albion player ratings vs Manchester United

Bart Verbruggen – 7: The goalkeeper did not have to make a single save today as his defenders were on top of the game.

Defenders

Joel Veltman – 7: Stayed back and defended throughout the match. He was stopping all the moves from the left side of Manchester United’s attack.

Jan Paul van Hecke – 7.5: Excellent on the ball and off it. He made just one mistake today and that saw Joao Pedro’s goal get ruled out.  

Lewis Dunk—7.5: He could have done a lot better with the goal they conceded today, but overall, he had a solid match.

Pervis Estupinan – 6.5: He was more involved in attack than defense today. He did not have a lot to do as Mitoma was dominating the wing.  

Midfielders

Yankuba Minteh – 8.5: Man of the match today but he could have easily been sent off as well. He scored the opening goal and also got an assist in the game.

Carlos Baleba – 6.5: He is showing why Brighton saw him as the ideal replacement for Moises Caicedo. He was all over the pitch and never looked like he was going to stop running.

Yasin Ayari – 7: He stayed back most of the game and only ran forward on a few occasions. However, he was a threat every time he went into the final third and though he did not take a shot.

Kaoru Mitoma – 8: He was on top of his game today and ended up with a goal and an assist. He was leaving the Manchester United players clueless and only Amad Diallo managed to keep up with him.

Forward

Joao Pedro – 6.5: He got a goal today but it was ruled out because of a foul earlier in play. He still did well but ended withy no goal or assist.

Danny Welbeck – 6.5: No goal or assist for the former Manchester United man, who has enjoyed playing against his former club.
