Newcastle United vs Arsenal Player Ratings

Newcastle United 2-0 Arsenal- Kai Havertz disastercalss once again as Alexander Isak shines

Newcastle United have sealed their ticket to Wembley for the Carabao Cup final after defeating Arsenal in a 2-leg semifinal. The Magpies won 2-0 at home on Wednesday night to make a 4-0 win on aggregate.

Alexander Isak scored in the opening minutes of the game but it was ruled out as was inches offside in the buildup. The Swede then had a shot off the post but thankfully for the Magpies, it fell to Jacob Murphy and he slotted it in.

The scoreline remained 1-0 until the 52nd minute after a massive error at the back saw Anthony Gordon make it 2-0. The scoreline remained unchanged for the rest of the game as Arsenal failed to muster anything in attack.

Martin Dubravka – 7: Hardly had to do anything in the game. Looked to have got stamped on twice – as many times as he had to make saves in the game.

Defenders

Kieran Trippier – 7: The experienced right-back stayed back and defended well. Never looked like he was going to let any of the Arsenal attackers past him.

Fabian Schar – 7.5: He handled Kai Havertz like he was up against a teenager playing for the first time. Hardly involved in the game otherwise.

Sven Botman – 7.5: Another Newcastle man who hardly broke a sweat today and kept Havertz in his pocket. A quiet night for the defender.

Dan Burn – 7.5: He was rather relaxed today as Havertz did not do anything special. The other Arsenal players also failed to put pressure on the defender.

Lewis Hall – 8: He was up and down the left flank but more involved in defense. Had Martinelli and Nwaneri in his pocket today.

Midfielders

Jacob Murphy – 7.5: Rather quiet game but scored the all-important goal. Could have got another one but failed to make the most of the space he had.

Bruno Guimares – 6.5: He was chasing the ball most of the time as they sat back to defend. Never looked like he was troubled by the Arsenal midfield.

Sandro Tonali – 7.5: The Italian had a quiet night as he helped in turnover more than anything. Hardly put a foot wrong today.

Anthony Gordon – 8: He was relentless and kept running throughout the game. Got a goal and was creating chances for fun.

Forward

Alexander Isak – 8.5: He did not get a goal or an assist today but he tormented the Arsenal defenders. That was enough to get them the win today.

Martin Odegaard

David Raya – 5: The goalkeeper made more mistakes today than saves. He was shaky at the back and that cost them the game.

Defenders

Jurrien Timber – 5.5: He could not do anything against Gordon and was troubled by the Newcastle man. He suffered in defense and failed to do much in attack.

William Saliba – 5: He was rather poor today and easily one of his worst games for Arsenal. Made an error that almost got Newcastle United going again in the second half.

Gabriel – 6: Pick of the Arsenal players today. He stayed back and did well against Isak and was the only one who turned up.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – 6: He was decent in decent in dealing with Murphy and was trying his best to start attacks.

Midfielders

Martin Odegaard – 7: He was trying his best to get the side back in the game but failed to do much. He had Arsenal’s best chance of the game when it was goalless.

Thomas Partey – 6: He was locked up in the middle of the pitch by the Newcastle United players. Could not do much and did nto get close to the box to shoot.

Declan Rice – 5.5: A match to forget for the club-record signing despite his best efforts. He was eased past by the Newcastle United at every chance.

Forward

Gabriel Martinelli – 4.5: He played just 37 minutes as he got injured. Could not do much to in the minutes he was on the pitch.

Kai Havertz – 3: He played the game and was on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes. That’s the only thing that can be said about the German.

Leandro Trossard – 5: His effort was Arsenal’s best on target but it was saved well.

Substitutes

Ethan Nwaneri – 6

Raheem Sterling – 4

Mikel Merino – 5

Riccardo Calafiori – 6

Jorginho – 5

Manager

Mikel Arteta – 5: He stuck to his plan but the players hardly managed to do anything right.
