Newcastle United have eased past Leicester City with a smashing win at home. They scored just once in the first half, but quick-fire three goals in the second saw them take a 4-0 lead at the hour mark.
Jacob Murphy gave them the lead in the first half after missing a couple of chances earlier in the game. The Magpies came out all guns firing in the second half and scored past Danny Ward twice, even before he could get a touch of the ball after coming on at halftime.
Bruno Guimares and Isak made it 3-0 in the 50th minute before Murphy got another at the hour mark to seal the 4-0 win.
Newcastle United player ratings vs Leicester City
Goalkeeper
Martin Dubravka – 7.5: The goalkeeper had to make just one save today and was more of a spectator during the match.
Defenders
Valentino Livramento – 7: He was decent in the 60-odd minutes on the pitch and was taken off to keep him fresh for the League Cup match next week. He was more involved in the attack than anything in defense.
Fabian Schar – 7: Sat back and had very little to do in defense. He just needs to walk around with Vardy and ensure that the striker did not get the ball.
Dan Burn – 7: The defender was more involved in keeping possession and did not let the ball go past him in the entire match. He won all his aerial duels against the Leicester City players.
Lewis Hall – 9: He was too good in the second half got an assist for the second goal of the match. He had a good shout to be the man of the match as well.
Midfielders
Sandro Tonali – 7.5: He was calm and composed in the whole match. Never put a foot wrong in the entire match.
Bruno Guimares – 7.5: He scored the second goal of the match but some might wonder if he should have been on the pitch. Could have got a booking in the first half for a dive inside the box, just a minute before he was booked for a foul.
Joelinton – 8: The midfielder was not involved a lot, but his positioning helped the teammates get into attacking third and get the left-back to push forward.
Jacob Murphy – 9: A performance he would be proud of today. He missed a couple of good chances in the early stages but scored twice and could have easily had a hat trick too.
Anthony Gordon – 8.5: He got just one assist today but the performance was just too good. He was dropping deep and getting Isak and Murphy drive forward.
Forwards
Alexander Isak – 9.5: He scored one and assisted once, but the performance was beyond spectacular. Tormented the Leicester City defenders and gave them a tough time in the 73 minutes he played.
