Over the last decade or so, La Liga has produced some incredible goal scorers who have achieved incredible feats in their careers. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Diego Forlan, among others – all came from La Liga.
The league has continued to produce talented players, with the race for the Spanish Golden Boot, or the Pichichi Trophy intensifying with every passing season.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are locked in a title race yet again, but with them is surprise package Girona, whose players have been a revelation to the league this season. Atletico Madrid are fourth, just two points behind Barca above them.
With La Liga set to enter the business end of the competition soon, let’s take a look at how the goal scoring charts are shaping up after Gameweek 23.
Jude Bellingham | Real Madrid | 14 Goals
Bellingham joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in July 2023 and has hit the ground running since his arrival. He has scored 14 goals and also provided three assists in 20 appearances in the league, all of which he has started. He has also been included in the competition’s ‘Team of the Week’ on eight separate occasions for his exploits.
In total, Bellingham has made 28 appearances for Los Blancos across competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing eight assists. He averages a goal every 124 minutes, which is remarkable for a central midfielder.
Artem Dovbyk | Girona | 14 Goals
Dark Horse Girona’s primary marksman finds himself in second place on the list, but only by virtue of having played a game more than Bellingham. Dovbyk has been a force to be reckoned with this season, bagging 14 goals and six assists in 21 appearances for Girona in La Liga. He scores at a frequency of a goal every 96 minutes and has propelled his team into a title race.
Overall, the Ukrainian has bagged 15 goals and eight assists in 26 games across competitions. He also scored a lovely hat-trick in a 5-1 demolition of Sevilla in January earlier this year.

Borja Mayoral | Getafe | 14 Goals
The third player on 14 goals is Getafe’s Spanish marksman, who has played 23 games and hence ranks lower than his two rivals. Along with his goals, he has also provided an assist.
Mayoral scores at a much lower frequency than Dovbyk, netting a goal every 130 minutes of play. He also attempts significantly fewer shots than his counterparts with Getafe also relying on its wide players to chip in with goals.
The 26-year-old striker has also scored two goals in the Copa del Rey, taking his total for the campaign to 16 in 27 appearances.
Alvaro Morata | Atletico Madrid | 13 Goals
Fourth on the list is veteran Spanish marksman Alvaro Morata, who has been a key player in Diego Simeone’s Atleti side this season. Morata has played 21 games so far in La Liga and has also bagged an assist along with his goals. He averages a goal every 110 minutes but mostly against teams below Atleti in the table.
An exception was his standout performance against Girona, wherein Morata grabbed a hat-trick for his team, albeit in a 4-3 defeat. Morata has 19 goals and three assists in 31 appearances in total so far and will look to add to that tally.
Antoine Griezmann | Atletico Madrid | 11 Goals
Morata’s partner-in-crime finds himself fifth on the list, with 11 goals and six assists so far in La Liga this season. Griezmann has been at his creative best for his team this season and has also been scoring with great freedom. He scores a goal every 169 minutes and has not missed a single game through injury.
Overall, Griezmann has 18 goals and seven assists in 33 games across competitions. Should Atleti look to win some silverware, they will hope the Frenchman continues in this vein of form for long.
