Liverpool willing to sell Carabao Cup star as squad overhaul planned in summer

Kelleher could see the back of Anfield despite an impressive campaign

Liverpool are ready to let Caoimhin Kelleher go this summer as the club plans an overhaul. Kelleher has become an important figure at Anfield this season, even playing in the Carabao Cup final, which the Reds won 1-0 over Chelsea in extra-time. He made a staggering nine saves in the game to bag a clean sheet, and followed it up with another stormer against Southampton on Thursday, this time in the FA Cup.

Yet, the 25-year-old may not remain at the club beyond the 2023-24 season, although his contract expires in 2026. According to the popular Liverpool blog, Empire of the Kop, Liverpool have already rejected a bid worth £15 million from Nottingham Forest but might accept if it’s increased to £20 million. A few more unnamed English clubs, as well as Scottish giants Celtic, are said to be interested in the star.

Kelleher has played 17 matches this season, keeping four clean sheets. Each one of them has come in four different competitions – the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, and the Europa League. Having come through the ranks at Liverpool’s academy, he’s a thoroughbred Scouser, but the lack of consistent opportunities means the goalkeeper might seek newer challenges next season.

Kelleher could etch his name in history books with more trophies

Caoimhin Kelleher’s future might be in doubt, but he still has the chance to etch his name in the club’s history books. With Liverpool contending for an unprecedented quadruple, the Irishman can expect to stand in goal for a few more crucial games that could come their way ahead.
