Manchester United set to hijack West Ham’s move for Bundesliga striker

Manchester United are all set to hijack West Ham United’s move for VfB Stuttgart’s highly-rated striker Serhou Guirassy.

This is as per reports from Football Insider, which have further stated that the Red Devils are willing to fend off interest from other clubs such as Newcastle United and AC Milan to acquire their target.

All the aforementioned clubs are on the lookout for a striker who could lead the line and offer physical presence and the Ivorian fits the bill perfectly.

Serhou Guirassy joined Stuttgart from Stade Rennais initially on a one-year loan deal for the 2022-23 season, before the transfer was made permanent in July 2023. The Ivorian has made 44 appearances for the club and has bagged 33 goals and four assists in the process.

This season, he has gotten off to a flyer with 19 goals and two assists in 16 games across competitions and it is no surprise some of Europe’s top clubs are after him. His exploits have helped Stuttgart rise to an unlikely third place in the Bundesliga after 17 games.

Manchester United acquired Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta last summer but are not convinced the Dane has the experience to lead the line. Erik ten Hag’s side have struggled to score goals as the manager has had difficulties picking his best XI, and signing a proven marksman could be the way forward.

Guirassy stands at 6-foot-2 and can strike the ball with both feet in addition to his aerial prowess. He is adept at link-up play and could be a valuable addition to a Manchester United side in need of a player who acts like the glue.

However, his participation in the African Cup of Nations this month could have an impact on whether clubs push for a move in January or wait it out until the summer.
