“Never say Never” – Jose Mourinho hints at Saudi Pro League move

Former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has hinted at a move to the Saudi Pro League (SPL) after the Portuguese gaffer opened up on the impact his fellow countrymen had since his move. Jose while speaking to prominent football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday (Mar 27) opened up on the potential move while also revealing he had the opportunity to join the league while he was in charge of AS Roma in Italy. Mourinho is a free agent and could sign for Bayern Munich in the summer while SPL also remains a destination where he is keen to move.

Jose Mourinho hints at SPL move

José Mourinho on potential future in Saudi: “Cristiano Ronaldo opened the door”.

“Becoming coach of a Saudi Pro League club? If you ask me in the future… never say never”.

“I had an important proposal but I said no as I was committed to AS Roma”.

The Portugal gaffer has enjoyed a very highly successful career during his peak managerial years, winning titles at every club he has managed except Tottenham Hotspur. He famously won the treble of Copa Italia, Serie A and the Champions League in the 2009-10 season while his Chelsea side’s record of conceding 15 goals in a Premier League season is still a record.

However, recent jobs have not been where Jose has managed to smash his authority in the league and has been sacked. Jose’s last league triumph came in the 2015 season when Chelsea lifted the Premier League title. However, in recent years he has been a cup coach winning the Europa Conference with Roma before guiding them to the final in 2023 in the Europa League.

Mourinho is still one of the three coaches to have stopped Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City from winning the league while Pep Guardiola has been in charge.

When could be the move final?

If a move does materialize will see him join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Steven Gerrard, in the Saudi Pro League. Mourinho is yet to coach outside Europe and this could be a big move for the gaffer and the SPL which could see a rise in popularity in the league.

It will also be interesting who Mourinho joins as he is also linked with the Bayern job which will be vacant after the club’s announcement regarding the departure of Thomas Tuchel who will be leaving the club at the side.
