According to ‘Football Italia’, Serie A‘s AC Milan have found themselves amidst an ‘offer’ to sign Premier League goalkeeper Loris Karius from Newcastle United this summer on a potential ‘free’ transfer. The report has come after an unfortunate injury to their backup goalkeeper Marco Sportiello recently.
Sporteillo reportedly has suffered a concerning and serious cut on one of his hands (left one). The incident is termed to have happened while he was at a hotel in New York amidst Milan’s visit to the USA for the pre-season friendlies. The 32-year-old goalkeeper is expected to be sidelined for a fair amount of time. At first glance, reports had it that, he may be out of onfield action for about two months.
A most recent report by ‘SempreMilan’ has indicated that Sportiello underwent surgery on his injured hand after the injury.

The injury to Marco Sportiello has landed AC Milan in an awkward position before the start of the new Serie A season. They would definitely need a backup goalkeeper to Mike Maignan when the 2024-25 campaign starts, considering their initial second-choice Sportiello is now expected to be out of on-field action.
Also, another squad option in the form of Lorenzo Torriani is deemed to be too young to be burdened or trusted with that responsibility as of now.
This is when ‘Calciomercato.com’ signaled that Milan has been offered the services of Newcastle United‘s goalkeeper Loris Karius on a potential free transfer. They could use this opportunity to overcome Sporteillo’s injury concern leading into the new season. The website deems that apart from AC Milan linked with Loris Karius, Portugal international goalkeeper Rui Patricio has also been ‘offered’ to the Rossoneris.
