Italian giants AC Milan have emerged as the surprising contender for out-of-favour Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer transfer window. The England international is expected to sanction an exit when the transfer window opens on 14th June 2024.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal since the arrival of David Raya last summer.
AC Milan wants to replace departing Mike Maignan with Aaron Ramsdale
AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan has been linked with a move to Manchester City as Ederson has reportedly decided to leave the Etihad this summer. Milan would definitely need a perfect replacement and Ramsdale is on top of their shortlists.
Aaron Ramsdale has been strongly linked with other Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and Newcastle United but Arsenal won’t been keen to let the former Sheffield United goalkeeper join one of their rivals.
The England international arrived in the summer of 2021 and became an integral part over the past few seasons. But he lost his starting spot since the arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford last summer.
The Spaniard won the Golden Glove award for the 2023–24 Premier League season after managing to keep 16 clean sheets from 38 games. He joined Arsenal on a season-long loan last summer and became Mikel Arteta’s number-one option throughout the campaign.
The Gunners are expected to activate the buy option clause in Raya’s loan deal and make their first permanent signing of the summer. He appeared in 41 games last season and registered 20 clean sheets.
Ramsdale is expected to be on the move in the next couple of months as he only made 11 appearances last season. Moving to Serie A with AC Milan would definitely pose a new challenge for the England international.
