Al Nassr are interested in taking Brazilian midfielder Casemiro off Manchester United’s hands this January, with the latter willing to sell.
This is as per reports from FootMercato, which add that the Saudi club are pushing for the move as requested by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo and Casemiro shared the dressing room during six glorious years at Real Madrid between 2013-18. They also spent a few months at Manchester United in 2022 before Ronaldo’s departure to Al Nassr. Familiar with each other’s style of play, the two also share a great relationship off the pitch.
Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70 million in 2022. Since joining, he has made 63 appearances for the club, scoring 11 times and providing seven assists. While the Brazilian played an astounding 4,000 minutes across 53 games last season, he has appeared in just 12 games so far this time around.
The midfielder picked up an injury in October and missed 17 games for United across 83 days. He only recently made the bench in his team’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham and could be match-ready soon. However, at 31 years of age, it is unlikely Erik ten Hag will construct Manchester United’s midfield around Casemiro. This could prompt him to move with Al Nassr lurking.
Al Nassr currently find themselves lagging behind Al-Hilal in the race for the Saudi Pro League crown halfway through the season. With 46 points from 19 games, they trail the leaders by seven points. Adding a player of Casemiro’s calibre will give manager Luis Castro additional talent at his disposal. Being a seasoned winner himself, the midfielder could prove to be the X-factor for Al Nassr in this season’s run-in.
It is currently unclear how much Manchester United will demand for their player. However, considering he is one of the club’s top earners, they will be glad to get his hefty wages off their books.
