Al Nassr resumes their Saudi Pro League 2024-25 season undertaking by hosting Al Wehda at the Al-Awwal Park on Friday in the Gameweek 5. 

The hosts are coming on the back of an action-packed King’s Cup round of 32 tie against Al Hazm defeating them 2-1, courtesy of a late winner scored by Nawaf Boushal during the added time secured their place in the Round of 16 competition. 

Meanwhile, the visitors have also advanced into the next round of the King’s Cup after clinching a victory over Al Faisaly after a hectic penalty shoot with a 4-2 margin in the Round of 32 clash. The regular and extra time proceeding concluded in a 1-1 draw. 

The newly appointed Italian boss Stefano Pioli took charge of the club after Luis Castro was sacked last week by the Saudi Pro League giant. Pioli will aim for a third successive win and his second league victory as Al Nassr’s coach.  

Whereas, Wehada’s previous two league outings were an experience to forget, suffering an embarrassing 7-0 defeat to Al-Ittihad and a narrow 1-0 loss to Al-Kholood respectively. They would seek to revive their league campaign against last season’s SPL runners-up.

The Knight of Najd could receive a major boost with the return of their captain Cristiano Ronaldo after nearly a week of absence from three games due to a viral infection. Marcelo Borzovic recovering from a muscle injury and long-term absentee Sami Al-Najei is expected to remain in the treatment.

The Australian has been a key player for Al Wehda since joining them back in 2023 summer. Goodwin maintains a 100% for the club having started in all of their five matches across all competitions. He has scored two goals with an assist this season, being the reliable figure of the team he is expected to play a pivotal role in the match.

Both sides head into the fixture, on the back of wins in their last game it is expected to closely contested match. However, the hosts have gained momentum under Stefano Pioli and looked promising as a team.
