Almeria vs Villarreal Preview:

  • Date: 21 April, Sunday
  • Kick-off Time: 2:15 PM (GMT)
  • Stadium: Power Horse Stadium

With Matchday 32 in LaLiga around the corner, Almeria will take on Villarreal on Sunday afternoon. Almeria’s suffering knows no end as the side has managed to accumulate only four points in their last five outings. The campaign has been horrific for La Indalicos as they managed to secure only one victory in LaLiga all season till now. While Almeria impressed last weekend as they held Real Sociedad to a 2-2 draw, they seem destined for relegation as they are 14 points away from safety with only seven matches to go in the LaLiga season.

Meanwhile, Villarreal arrive at the Power Horse stadium in much better condition. The Yellow Submarines have been plagued by defensive issues all season long, but seem to have finally found some stability under Marcelino, winning three out of their last five outings. Even over the weekend, Villarreal were impressive as they drew 1-1 with Copa del Rey champions Athletic Bilbao. With an ailing Almeria on the other side, Villarreal will look to register their fourth victory in six games.

To make matters worse for relegation-bound Almeria is a wave of injuries to several crucial players as the business end of the season approaches. Striker Marko Milovanovic sustained a brutal jaw injury yesterday and has been ruled out for the Almeria vs Villarreal game. His return from injury hasn’t been declared yet, but it is likely that he will return next month. Accompanying the lanky striker on the sidelines will be his strike partner Luis Suarez. The Columbian is still recovering from his thigh injury and isn’t available for selection for the Almeria vs Villarreal game.

Almeria will also be without Gonzalo Melero cum Sunday as he is suspended. Meanwhile, center-back Aleksandar Radovanovic is in the final stages of recovering from his injury.

While Almeria can complain of an injury crisis, Villarreal’s struggles with injuries make their problems look miniscule. On Sunday, the Yellow Submarines will be without several starters and will have to resort to calling up academy players to warm the bench. Midfielder Francis Coquelin has missed recent games due to physical discomfort and it seems that he will be unavailable for the Almeria vs Villarreal tie as well. He will be joined on the sidelines by center back Eric Bailly as the ex Manchester United player is yet to recover from his injury as well.

While long-term absentees Dennis Suarez and Juan Foyth have entered the final stages of their recovery, the Villarreal medical staff is unlikely to recommend a hasty return of the duo. To make matters worse, veteran Raul Albiol and midfielder Santi Comesana will also miss the trip to Almeria as the duo are serving a suspension.

Almeria vs Villarreal Head-to-Head Record:

Since 2011, the two clubs have faced each other 14 times. Predictably, the Yellow Submarines have dominated the tie as they have won 9 ties, while Almeria has managed to win only one. Four games between the two clubs have ended in a draw. When the two sides met earlier this season, Villarreal beat Almeria 2-1 at home. Almeria vs Villarreal sets up the perfect opportunity for Almeria to take revenge for the loss.

Last five results:

  • Villarreal 2-1 Almeria:- LaLiga – 17 September, 2023
  • Almeria 0-2 Villarreal:- LaLiga – 4 March, 2023
  • Villarreal 2-1 Almeria:- LaLiga – 23 October, 2022
  • Villarreal 8-0 Almeria:- Copa del Rey – 6 December, 2018
  • Almeria 3-3 Villarreal:- Copa del Rey – 1 November, 2018

Almeria vs Villarreal Prediction:

While Almeria have been poor all season, they do enter the tie against the Yellow Submarines on the back of an impressive performance against Real Sociedad. However, with Villarreal’s newfound stability and hunger to improve under manager Marcelino, it seems unlikely that Almeria will do enough to produce a performance to deny Villarreal victory. Despite a long list of injuries, Villarreal should manage to beat Almeria comfortably.

Predicted Score: Almeria 0-2 Villarreal
