Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies suffered a mouth injury during their 8-1 demolition of Mainz at Allianz Arena in the Bundesliga on Saturday, March 9.
Thomas Tuchel addressed Alphonso Davies’ injury
The Canadian fullback went in for an aerial duel in the 16th minute and was caught in the face by Silvan Widmer with his boot. Davies’ lip was bleeding and the medical team came on quickly to try to patch him up. He was eventually substituted in place of Rafael Gurreiro.
Bayern coped well with the early setback as they hammered Mainz 8-1. Harry Kane scored a hat-trick while Leon Goretzka scored a brace. Thomas Muller, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry scored a goal each while Nadiem Amiri got a consolation goal for the visitors.
After the game, Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel spoke about Davies’ injury and said:
“Davies is feeling unwell and has consulted a dentist, as some of his teeth were damaged, or rather misaligned.”
Some reports suggested that Davies might have lost a couple of teeth in the incident but the fullback denied those rumors. He also shared a picture of his teeth to confirm that while they’re crooked, his teeth are still intact.
Hence, it doesn’t appear to be a big injury for the Canadian fullback and he should be available for Bayern Munich in their next game. They will face Darmstadt away on Saturday, March 16 in the Bundesliga.
Davies has made 30 appearances across competitions for the Bavarians this season and also contributed one goal and three assists.

Alphonso Davies edging closer to Bayern Munich’s exit
Davies has been a key player for Bayern since arriving from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019. He has scored nine goals and provided 28 assists in 183 games for them, winning numerous trophies.
However, he now appears set to leave the club at the end of the season. Davies’ contract expires in the summer of 2025. There have been multiple attempts by Bayern to get him to sign an extension but to no avail.
If he doesn’t sign a new contract, the Bavarians will have to face the risk of him leaving for free in 2025. Hence, they are likely to sell him this summer to get a good transfer fee. According to Marca, Bayern are likely to demand over €50 million for the fullback.
Real Madrid have been highly linked with a move for Davies in the summer. Some reports have even claimed that a verbal agreement has been reached between the player and Los Blancos. However, his agent had denied such claims, refusing to indulge in transfer talks amidst an ongoing season.
