England encountered an injury scare on Wednesday (June 26) after Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon fell off a bike during a training session at Euro 2024. The Magpies winger was spotted with a graze on his chin the following day, but there isn’t thought to be any serious issue.
BBC reporter Alex Howell reports that Gordon is fine and was in full training after the fall. He’s made a one-minute cameo appearance in Germany, coming off the bench in his nation’s 0-0 stalemate against Slovenia (June 25).
England defender Marc Guehi touched on the situation and laughed about it when speaking to the media:
“He fell off his bike. The boys went out on a bike ride… I actually wasn’t there but I heard about it. I was actually talking to him and wasn’t really paying attention. Turned around and I saw the massive gash on his chin but he’s okay.”
Gareth Southgate’s England is through to the last 16 of Euro 2024, albeit in unconvincing fashion. They finished top of Group C following a 1-0 win against Serbia and draws with Denmark (1-1) and Slovenia (0-0). They face Slovakia at Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday (June 30).

England looked devoid of ideas in the attack, and Southgate’s persistence in starting Phil Foden on the left to accommodate Jude Bellingham didn’t work. The Manchester City superstar is one of English football’s most exciting talents but has struggled to shine on the left flank in Germany.
Gordon, 23, could be an option to come into Southgate’s XI and be the pacey winger the Three Lions are crying out for. He impressed for Newcastle last season with 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 games across competitions.
