Arsenal join host of London clubs chasing signature of Feyenoord goal-machine

Arsenal have joined Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and West Ham United in a race to sign highly-rated Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

This is as per reports from Football Insider, which add that the Gunners are intensifying their pursuit to fend off interest from their London rivals.

Twenty-two-year-old Gimenez has been a revelation for Feyenoord and has been in red-hot form. Having come through the youth ranks at Mexican side Cruz Azul, the forward made the switch to the Eredivisie in 2022.

He has made 68 appearances for Feyenoord across competitions, bagging 44 goals and also providing eight assists. This season, his numbers have been incredible. Gimenez has notched 21 goals and five assists in just 23 appearances for his club.

Santiago Gimenez

It is no secret that Arsenal are in desperate need of a proven goal scorer and could turn to Santiago Gimenez to fill that void. Standing at nearly 6-foot-1, Gimenez is a perfect cocktail of pace, power and strength – something which Mikel Arteta’s team need from their marksman.

While the Gunners already have Gabriel Jesus, Edward Nketiah and Leandro Trossard in their ranks, none of them are typical centre-forwards, more like second strikers or false nines. Bringing in a player of Gimenez’s calibre would certainly help boost their chances of challenging for the Premier League title.

Elsewhere, Tottenham are likely to cool their interest in the player, having recently acquired Timo Werner from RB Leipzig to solve their striker shortage. Fulham already have Raul Jimenez, while West Ham have also been linked with a move for VfB Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy.

However, it seems as though any potential suitors will have to wait until the summer transfer window to make a bid for Santiago Gimenez. He is crucial to manager Arne Slot and Feyenoord’s plans for the rest of the season, with the club second in the Eredivisie and still a part of the Europa League knockouts round.
