Morgan Rogers to Aston Villa

Aston Villa Secures Promising Talent Morgan Rogers in £15m Deal

In a significant move during the ongoing transfer deadline day, Aston Villa have successfully acquired the services of 21-year-old winger Morgan Rogers for a reported fee of approximately £15 million.

This marks Villa’s second signing this window, following the addition of Kosta Nedeljkovic from Red Star Belgrade.

Rogers, who had previously joined Middlesbrough on a permanent deal in the summer of 2023, showcased impressive performances for the Championship side.

Despite initial resistance from Middlesbrough due to Villa’s perceived lowball approach, a resolution was reached after extended negotiations. This deal comes after Boro rejected three previous bids from Villa.

The 21-year-old, a product of Manchester City whom Boro acquired for around £1 million last summer, is set to reinforce Villa’s attacking options. A sell-on clause in the deal means that Manchester City stands to benefit from Rogers’ transfer.

Emery, the Aston Villa manager, identified Morgan Rogers as a player capable of immediately strengthening the team’s frontline. The England Under-20 international, who demonstrated his skills with two goals in the Championship this season, caught Emery’s attention during Boro’s FA Cup third-round defeat to Villa earlier this month.

Known for his versatility, Rogers can play across the forward line, providing competition for Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey.

The arrival of Rogers raises questions about the future of Jhon Durán, with the Colombian striker seeking more regular game time. Clubs, including Chelsea, have expressed interest in Durán.

Amidst transfer speculations, Emery emphasized the importance of 22-year-old Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, dismissing any rumours of an imminent move.
