Aston Villa vs Liverpool Preview, Prediction and Betting Tips | Premier League

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Match Preview

Aston Villa vs Liverpool will take place at Villa Park in the Premier League on May 13 as the fourth-placed side prepares for a showdown against the third-placed side.

The hosts will enter this game on the back of a decent run of form. They have lost just twice in their last eight games across competitions, securing three wins and three draws in the other six games. This mixed run saw them lost any hopes of being in the title race, but they also have a seven-point cushion over Spurs below them. They lost 4-2 to Olympiacos before falling 1-0 to Brighton in the Premier League and will look to end the season on a good note with a win.

The visitors, on the other hand, will enter this contest on the back of a mixed run of form. They have lost just thrice in their last eight games across competitions, securing three wins and two draws in the other games. Defeats to Crystal Palace and Everton saw the Reds forfeit their title push, combined with elimination from the Europa League after losing 3-1 to Atalanta. However, they bounced back with a resounding 4-2 win over Tottenham in their last match and will look to carry that forward.

On that note, let’s take a look at the team news coming out from both camps.

Team News

Aston Villa

Manager Unai Emery will have a rather lengthy injury list to deal with ahead of his team’s next game. Long-term absentees Tyrone Mings (ACL), Emiliano Buendia (ACL), Boubacar Kamara (knee) and Jacob Ramsey (toe) will surely be out for the remainder of the season. Left back Alex Moreno (unknown) will also miss the next game.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and midfielder Youri Tielemans missed Villa’s last game and will be assessed late before the next one to determine their availability.

Liverpool

Manager Jurgen Klopp will be without four key stars for his team’s trip south to Birmingham to face Villa. Long-term absentees Joel Matip (ACL), Ben Doak (meniscus) and Thiago Alcantara will remain sidelined until the end of the campaign. Diogo Jota has also missed a few games and is unlikely to return for the next one.

Predicted Lineups

Aston Villa

Emery will name a largely unchanged lineup against the Reds in the next game.

Predicted XI: Robin Olsen (GK); Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres, Lucas Digne; John McGinn (C), Douglas Luiz; Leon Bailey, Morgan Rogers, Moussa Diaby; Ollie Watkins.

Liverpool

Klopp, too, will field the same lineup he did in the last game against Tottenham.

Predicted XI: Alisson (GK); Trent-Alexander Arnold, Jarell Quansah, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson; Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister; Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Head-to-Head Record

These two teams have faced each other regularly over the last few decades, producing some highly-entertaining matches for fans. However, the Reds have the upper hand in recent times, winning four of their last five meetings, with the other being a draw.

Last 5 Games

  • Liverpool 3-0 Aston Villa
  • Liverpool 1-1 Aston Villa
  • Aston Villa 1-3 Liverpool
  • Aston Villa 1-2 Liverpool
  • Liverpool 1-0 Aston Villa

Prediction

As you can see, history suggests that Liverpool are the clear favourites heading into this contest, and so does their form. However, since they are playing away from home, Villa do have a chance to have their say in this contest should they make a better start to the game compared to their rivals and also get on the scoresheet fairly early.

Additionally, neither side have much to lose and are mostly certain to finish the season in their current positions, which will give both managers the incentive to play attacking set ups.

Prediction: Aston Villa 2-3 Liverpool.
