Atalanta vs Liverpool Preview
Date – Thursday, 18 April 20204
Kick-off Time – 9 PM (BST)
Venue – Gewiss Stadium
Atalanta shook the world on Thursday night as Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad battered Liverpool three goals to nil at Anfield. It was La Dea’s second consecutive win in Merseyside after doing so back in November 2020.
Coming to the reversed leg with a three-goal lead, Atalanta need only a draw to secure the semifinal spot in this competition. On the other hand, Liverpool needed another European night miracle, having to win with a four-goal margin in front of Atalanta’s passionate crowd.
Gasperini’s boys are on a mission to achieve another European calendar next season, keeping it up with the ups and downs in the league. They currently sit fifth on the table, five points away from the Europa League zone which belongs to AS Roma at the moment.
Liverpool on the other hand are not yet out of the tie mathematically. Infact, winning with a four-goal margin in Bergamo is not new to The Reds as they had won 5-0 in the latest visit to Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.
As both teams prepare for their second clash in a span of seven days, Atalanta and Liverpool will turn their focus to the league agenda this weekend.
Atalanta vs Liverpool Team News
Atalanta
With the league agenda coming on Monday, Atalanta are scheduling a training session behind closed doors this Saturday. Giasperini will regroup his players to shift the focus on Serie A including the two goal scorers at Anfield, Gianluca Scamacca and Mario Pasalic.
Atalanta will still be without Sead Kolasinac and Giorgio Scalvini who are undergoing injury rehabs with the medical team. The aforementioned player’s returning date is still unknown while Scalvini is expected to get his feet back on the pitch by May.
Quarter-final has been the best result Atalanta could get, being there three times during their six participations in Europa League. The victory at Anfield put them in a favored position to secure the semifinal spot for the first time.
Liverpool
Liverpool on the other hand, are desperately trying to win another trophy this season after winning the Carabao Cup back in February. However, a shocking home defeat has made the target seem to fade away. The only way for Mohamed Salah and co to overturn the table is by winning the second leg with a four-goal margin, which historically was possible.
Jurgen Klopp and his staff are learning carefully about the possibility of several key players returning to the squad. Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been training separately from the first squad as part of their rehabilitation process.

Atalanta vs Liverpool Prediction
Atalanta will return to Gewiss Stadium after playing four consecutive away games since mid March. La Dea have been actually struggling to perform consistently, winning away against Napoli and Liverpool, but losing at home to Bologna.
Gasperini has to ensure that the victory at Anfield was not a coincidence if he wants to make history by sending Atalanta to the Europa League semifinal for the first time in the history of the club.
Liverpool on the other hand, would rely on the fact that they have won big at Bergamo in the past. But owing to the current performances, witnessing another of Liverpool’s European night miracle is unlikely. The match will be concluded with a 1-1 draw and the host heading to the final four rounds.
