Austria vs France will take place as the second game in Group D in Euro 2024 as these two nations will look to make a good start in the tournament when they clash at the Dusseldorf Arena.

The hosts will enter this game on the back of a strong run of form, where they have lost just one of their last eight games across competitions. In that span, they have also secured six wins and a draw as they looked well-prepared for Euro 2024. They scored an impressive 18 goals during that time and conceded just six goals. They won six in a row before drawing 1-1 against Switzerland in their last outing and will look to get back to winning ways.

Les Bleus, on the other hand, will enter this game on the back of a slightly worse form than their opponents. They have secured five wins in their last eight games across competitions, drawing two and losing one of the other three matches. They have scored an eye-watering 28 goals in this run, including a 14-0 mauling of Gibraltar in November 2023. They have also conceded eight goals but will be confident about their defence. Manager Ralf Rangnick will be eager to get back to winning ways after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Switzerland last time out.

Alexander Schlager will retain his spot between the sticks, with Gernot Trauner and Philipp Lienhart in front of him in central defence. Skipper Konrad Laimer will man the midfield alongside Nicolas Seiwald and Florian Kainz. Having scored goals for fun in recent months in games that mattered less, the onus will be on the French players to prove their mettle to win Euro 2024. Manager Didier Deschamps will go with the strongest squad available and will look to win it all.

Mike Maignan will be the first-choice custodian, with William Saliba and Ibrahima Konate slotting in as the center-backs in front of him. Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni will sit deep, with Antoine Griezmann playing as the number 10. Out wide on the left will be Kylian Mbappe and on the right will be Randal Kolo Muani, with Olivier Giroud playing through the middle.

  • Marko Arnautovic (Austria) – The tall and mercurial striker has been around for absolute ages and has one of the hardest shots in the game. Despite being 35, he still has some qualities that would help Austria get into the game against France. He made 35 appearances for Inter Milan this season, scoring seven goals and assisting three, and will look to perform well for his nation.
  • Antoine Griezmann (France) – Another player who performs for his country no matter what is Griezmann. Over the years, he has played in multiple positions and still managed to contribute towards the team’s cause. One of the most experienced French players, Griezmann has made 129 appearances for Les Bleus, netting 44 goals and providing 38 assists as well.
