Barcelona vs Getafe Preview, Prediction and Betting Tips

Barcelona vs Getafe Preview

Third placed Barcelona will host 10th placed Getafe at the Camp Nou in La Liga on Saturday, February 24.

The hosts enter this contest on the back of a decent run of form, going unbeaten in their last five. They have won three and drawn two of those games as they look to maintain pace with leaders Real Madrid. Their last outing was an end-to-end 1-1 draw against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg. Prior to that, Barca won 2-1 at Celta and will be looking to continue their winning run in the league.

Meanwhile, Getafe enter this contest on the back of a mixed run of form. With two wins, two draws and one defeat in their last five games, they are 10th in La Liga with 34 points from 25 games. Currently just six points off the European spots, they know a good run of wins will help them ascend in the table. Getafe’s last game was a 1-1 draw away at Villarreal as Nemanja Maksimovic’s goal was cancelled out by Alberto Moreno’s. They were looking to put a strong show against Barca.

That said, let’s take a look at the team news emerging from both camps.

Manager Xavi Hernandez will have a couple of selection woes to deal with prior to this game. Long-term absentees Gavi (ACL), Alejandro Balde (tendon rupture) and Ferran Torres (hamstring) are definitely set to miss out for a while. Marcos Alonso (back) is also out for the foreseeable future.

Four players face the risk of being suspended should they be booked once more. Robert Lewandowski, Oriol Romeu, Joao Cancelo and Ronaldo Araujo are all currently on four for the season.

Manager Jose Bordalas will have few concerns pertaining to injuries, with most of his squad fit and available for selection. However, long-term absentee Mauro Arambarri remains sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury. Jordi Martin was subbed off with an injury in the last game and could be doubtful for the next one too.

Three players risk suspension should they pick up another card and will have to tread carefully. Carles Alena, Omar Alderete and Mason Greenwood are all on four cards for the season so far.
