Thomas Tuchel’s departure saga from Bayern Munich took a massive turn, with both parties in talks of extending employment duration next season. Goal reported that the manager’s agent met the board members of the Bavaria-based club on Wednesday.
The news has become a significant twist as the club is intensively searching for a proper replacement for Tuchel. Notable names from Zinedine Zidane, Xabi Alonso, Erik Ten Hag, and the two former employees Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann were rumored to be on the list. But none of the deals materialized.
Thomas Tuchel could stay longer than the initial contract
Legally, Tuchel could still have another season with Bayern as his contract expires in the summer of 2025. In recent negotiations, he has been asked for a longer stay, up to 2026. The club has yet to decide the result of the talks, but it is reported that everything is positive.
Bayern ended the season without a trophy for the first time since 2012. In the Bundesliga, Die Rotten could not match up with Bayer Leverkusen, who had not been beaten throughout the season.
Tuchel’s squad were also knocked out of the Champions League in the semifinal after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Real Madrid. This year’s edition of DFB Pokal has even ended more bitterly for Bayern, as they lost to the third-tier team Saarbrucken FC in the second round.
