Bayern Munich have turned attention to Zinedine Zidane to fill the managerial position next season, Marca reported. Bayern are finding an alternative after the pursuit of Xabi Alonso looks unlikely be materialised after the Spaniard vowed his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen.
Zidane, who has not been under any employment since 2021, is considered as an ideal target to lead Bayern back to the winning route. This campaign’s failure to compete at the top with Alonso’s Leverkusen saw the club announce the departure of Thomas Tuchel which is due to happen after the season ends.
Bayern Munich wants Zinedine Zidane is not closing doors to the opportunity
According to Marca, Zidane is open to any coaching opportunity in the future but is reluctant to say the date and year. However, the 1998 World Cup winner added that he is working on something which he refuses to reveal.
“Why not,” he said when turning up at the Juventus game weeks ago. “Anything can happen, but at the moment I’m doing something else. I’m sure I’ll be back on the bench, I’d like to go back to coaching.”
Zidane is a shareholder of a French second tier team, Rodez Aveyron. The team are currently sitting seventh on the League 2 table, having lost their latest outing against Caen. Zidane’s eldest son Enzo used to play for that team in 2021 before moving to Fuenlabrada the next year where he ended his professional playing career there.
Bayern at the same time, are focussing on the second leg of the Champions League’s quarter final. The club’s sporting director Max Eberl admitted that the priority is to overcome Arsenal and secure the semi final spot.
“Now we have the Champions League game against Arsenal,” Eberl said via The Sun. “There’s a lot coming up. I don’t give a s**t about the search for a coach. Now it’s all about the Arsenal game. We’ll face a team, with all respect to Heidenheim, that is a class above them.
