EFL Championship side Blackburn Rovers will host Premier League side Newcastle United at Ewood Park in the FA Cup 5th Round.

The Rovers enter this contest on the back of a stagnating run of form. With three draws, one win and one defeat in their last five games, they were on a downward trajectory. Currently 16th in the Championship with 39 points from 34 games, they needed a positive boost in the cup. Their last game was a 1-1 draw against Norwich and they were looking to do better.

The Magpies, on the other hand, entered this contest on the back of a decent run of form. With two wins, two draws and one defeat in their last five, they looked in pretty good shape. They are placed eighth in the Premier League with 37 points from 26 games as they look to do well in the cup. Their last outing was a 4-1 trouncing by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium as they looked to do well on their next away trip.

Manager John Eustace will have few concerns ahead of this fixture with most of his squad fit and available. Midfielder John Buckley will likely miss out with a shoulder injury, but could return for the away trip to Swansea City. Ryan Hedges is a doubt after going off injured in the draw against Norwich and will be assessed a day before the Newcastle game.

Meanwhile, seven players are facing the risk of being suspended. Hayden Carter (9), Dominic Hyam (4), Joe Rankin-Costello (4), among others could miss games if they pick up another booking.

Eddie Howe remains without the suspended Sandro Tonali. Long-term absentees Nick Pope (shoulder), Joelinton (groin) and Matt Targett (hamstring) remain sidelined as well. Meanwhile, Callum Wilson missed the last game due to a chest injury, while ‘keeper Martin Dubravka was taken ill.

Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has already picked up nine yellow cards this season and will be suspended for two games if he picks up another.
