Premier League sides Everton and Nottingham Forest have allegedly been found in breach of the league’s profitability and sustainability rules.
This is as per reports from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who has mentioned that the clubs have been charged for offences recorded between the three-year cycle during 2020-23. He added that they are preparing a strong and robust defence to prove their innocence in the matter.
Everton were already found guilty of a similar breach earlier this season and were even docked 10 points following a hearing from an Independent Commission. However, they have managed to shrug off the deduction and have pulled themselves out of the relegation zone despite going from 14 to four points after being charged.
Forest will know their fate around April and will reserve a right to appeal the charges. Everton, on the other hand, are at a risk of losing points due to the same breaches twice in a single season. The club could not only be docked points, but could also face commercial sanctions to part-owner Alisher Usmanov’s assets.
Clubs are permitted to lose £105 million over a three-year period, which equates to £35 million per season. However, since Nottingham Forest spent two of the three years in the Championship, their losses are capped at £61 million, equating to £13 million in 2020-21 and 2021-22, plus £35 million in 2022-23.
The two clubs have been given 14 days by the Premier League to respond to the aforementioned charges.
