Brentford striker Ivan Toney speaks up amid transfer interest from Arsenal

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has marked his return from suspension with a candid interview about his future, amid heavy links with Arsenal move.

Speaking to Sky Sports in an interview, Toney expressed his desire to move onto a bigger and better club should the opportunity present itself at the right time.

“You can never predict when it is the right time to move elsewhere. It’s obvious I’d like to play for a top club. Everybody wants to play for a top club – fighting for titles.

“Whether it’s this January, if a club were to come in and pay the right money, who knows? But my main focus is doing what I do on the pitch and let the background work take care of itself.”

The nature and timing of his interview could leave sour tastes in the mouths of Brentford fans and manager Thomas Frank. However, Toney has the ability to take it to the next level and has likely just expressed his ‘come and get me plea’ for clubs.

The striker was banned by the Premier League’s independent commission for eight months after he was found guilty of breaching gambling rules. His ban ended on January 18th, making Ivan Toney eligible for Brentford’s game against Nottingham Forest on the weekend.

Toney made 35 appearances for Brentford across competitions last season, scoring 21 goals and providing five assists. His output is exactly what Arsenal need, considering their shortage of goals this season. Toney also brings with him a strong aerial presence, great positional awareness and the ability to finish off the toughest chances.

The striker is also a fighter and will give the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Edward Nketiah a run for their money.

His current contract with Brentford expires in June 2025. The Gunners will still have to cough up a sizeable amount to acquire him in January, or even the summer.
