Cavan Sullivan Makes MLS History as Union Dominates Revolution 5-1

On Wednesday night Cavan Sullivan became the youngest player ever to appear in an MLS game.

At just 14 years and 293 days old Sullivan stepped onto the field for the Philadelphia Union replacing Tai Baribo in the 85th minute. He broke the record set by Freddy Adu who debuted at 14 years and 306 days in 2004.

Baribo’s Hat Trick Leads the Union to Victory

The Philadelphia Union ended their 10-match winless streak with a decisive 5-1 victory over the New England Revolution. Tai Baribo was the star of the night scoring his first career hat trick. He opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a header assisted by Jack Elliott and Kai Wagner.

Jakob Glesnes doubled the lead in the 39th minute scoring his first goal of the season. Baribo added another goal just five minutes later giving the Union a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.

The Revolution’s Ian Harkes scored in the 50th minute marking his first goal of the season.

However, Baribo completed his hat-trick just two minutes later with assists from Wagner and Elliott. Quinn Sullivan wrapped up the scoring for the Union in the 84th minute assisted by Glesnes.

Goalkeeper Andre Blake returned from a meniscus injury and made his fifth start of the season for the Union. Aljaž Ivačič made three saves for the Revolution.

This victory marked only the second win for Philadelphia in their last 18 matches. They will now host Nashville SC on Saturday while the Revolution will face FC Dallas at home.
