Mauricio Pochettino has been sacked by Chelsea less than a year after he was appointed. The Blues parted ways with the manager on Tuesday after they finished 6th in the Premier League and finished runners-up in the Carabao Cup.
Soon after the decision was officially announced on social media, a large section of fans expressed their anger. They believed that the manager had earned more time as things slowly started turning around.
Here are a few reactions from the fans:
Sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley released a statement on behalf of the club and thanked Pochettino for his service. They added that the Argentine was welcome back to Stamford Bridge at any time and wished him the best for his future. The statement read:
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge at the time, and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”
Mauricio Pochettino was quoted in the Chelsea article announcing his departure. The Argentine thanked the owners for trusting him and added that the club was well-positioned to do well in the Premier League and Europe. He said:
“Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
