Chelsea, Liverpool to receive THIS prize money on winning Carabao Cup Final

The stage is set for the 2024 Carabao Cup final as Chelsea and Liverpool will cross paths at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday (Feb 25). The final in North London will be an opportunity for both Chelsea and Liverpool to capture the first silverware of the season. While glory will be top of the agenda for both sides, winning the competition will also bring hefty prize money to the club and a guaranteed spot in European football next season. Ahead of the final, here is a breakdown of the prize money both Chelsea and Liverpool will receive after the Carabao Cup final.

Carabao Cup Final Prize Money

The competition less priortised by big clubs has obvious reasons as the pool of prize money is less than that of other competitions. The winner of this season’s Carabao Cup will get £100,000 as prize money while runners-up will be handed £50,000. Interestingly, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who won the competition with Liverpool in 2022 and represented Chelsea in the initial stage of their 2015 winning campaign, earns a reported £50,000 per day, giving a significant reason why the competition is less prioritised.

Breaking down further, the winners of the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds were handed prize money of £25,000 while the teams winning the first round were only handed £5,000 while teams advancing to the third round secured £7,000.

Carabao Cup: A Squad Depth Litmus Test for Premier League Giants

Comparing Carabao Cup’s prize money and rewards, big teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and others would often see the competition to test the depth of the squad rather than using it as a mainstay competition. Despite this, in the last decade Manchester City (six times), Manchester United (twice), Chelsea (2015), and Liverpool (2022) have won the competition. This despite earning millions through competing and winning the European competitions coupled with the Premier League and the FA Cup.

As things stand, Sunday’s final will be the second time in less than 24 months that both Chelsea and Liverpool meet at a Wembley final. The two collided in the 2022 Carabao Cup and the FA Cup final, with Liverpool winning on both occasions in a penalty shootout. The opportunity will be a perfect one for Chelsea to guarantee a place in Europe next season despite them struggling in the Premier League. For Liverpool and their fans, this could be the last time they see manager Jurgen Klopp lift silverware for the Reds having already announced his departure after the end of the current season.
