Another player has apparently been declared out for the remainder of the season, as Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez dealt with a serious blow ahead of the last 5 Premier League fixtures.
Cole Palmer Set to Return
This season, Mauricio Pochettino has been plagued by injury problems to his main players; for Tuesday’s 5-0 loss at Arsenal, as many as ten players were out.
Cole Palmer, the star player who was absent from the humiliation at the Emirates Stadium due to illness, may make a comeback ahead of Saturday’s crucial match against Aston Villa.
But it looks like Pochettino will be without one of his regular performers for the rest of 2023–2024, according to a report.
What is Enzo Fernandez Injury?
Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez is set to undergo surgery for a long-standing hernia issue, according to reports from Argentine outlet Ole. Fernandez had missed the recent 6-0 win over Everton, and although he played in subsequent matches, it appears surgery is now necessary.
The 23-year-old participated in 88 minutes of the FA Cup Semi-Final and then made an appearance for 67 minutes three days later against Arsenal.
It was believed at the time that his withdrawal had nothing to do with managing his fitness after the match against one of their London rivals had ended.
Rather, according to the sources, Fernandez, Chelsea, and Argentina have all decided that surgery is the best course of action for the player now.
What is Enzo Fernandez’s Expected Date of Return?
Fernandez is expected to be sidelined for up to three weeks following the surgery, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the Premier League season.
With just three-and-a-half weeks left in the season, Chelsea are unlikely to risk Fernandez ahead of his commitments with Argentina at the Copa America in June.
The absence of Enzo Fernandez poses a significant challenge for Chelsea as they enter the final stretch of the season. However, it also presents an opportunity for other players to step up and make an impact in the midfield.
