Chelsea fans get emotional as Thiago Silva leaves Chelsea
Chelsea fans paid an emotional tribute to Thiago Silva as the Brazilian legend ended his spell at the club. Silva joined the Blues from PSG in 2020 and made 155 appearances. The 39-year-old played 38 matches this season.
Silva leaves the club having won the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup. Despite joining Chelsea at the age of almost 36, he played a crucial role for them. Fans held a massive banner of Silva at Stamford Bridge. They also wrote on a banner:
“He came from PSG to win the Champions League.”
In a team full of youngsters, Silva was Chelsea’s only experienced player recently. Despite his age, Silva didn’t look like he had lost too much from his game. However, he has decided that it’s time to end his Chelsea chapter.
He started the game against Bournemouth. Chelsea managed a 2-1 home win to finish the season off with five straight league victories.
Thiago Silva has a message for Chelsea teammates
Thiago Silva has been a top professional throughout his career. He has a winner’s mentality and inspires others to be better. Despite leaving Chelsea, Silva wants his teammates to get better this season. He said (via India Today):
“These boys need to be aware that Chelsea has to fight for (for trophies) in the top positions. If we take a little of our ego and put it in favour of the team, I think it will work. If we don’t do that, the situation will hardly change, unfortunately.”
Silva is now set to return to Brazil. He will join his hometown club, Fluminense, next season. Silva previously played 97 games for Fluminense as a youngster.
