Enzo Fernandez has been outstanding for Chelsea this season as the Argentinian became an integral part of The Blues midfield force. However, it turns out that the former Benfica player has carried serious physical issues while playing for Chelsea week in week out.
Enzo is suffering a hernia problem and has kept playing through Chelsea’s busy schedule. The club has no intention of pushing him to surgery which could his focus on the pitch, leaving it up to the player.
Enzo Fernandez to undergo surgery?
The 2022 World Cup winner could miss the Premier League remaining matches this season if he undergoes a surgery. However, skipping medical treatment until the season ends is also not a wise decision to take.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino said that Enzo has a full right to decide which step is the best for him. At the same time, the club keeps monitoring the player’s condition so they could take any necessary step in the future.
“We always assess him day by day,” he said. “We need to protect him because he is a young guy, and the present is important, but so is the future. We are going to do what is the best for him”, Pochettino added. “Again, we have experience of managing this situation. First, the most important thing is him as a person, not a player. It’s about how he feels and whether he is comfortable with the situation.
“We will all support his decision (if he feels he needs surgery), but we are not going to force him to do something. We are here to help and advise him of our assessment and experience.”
The 23-year old has participated in 40 games for Chelsea so far, scoring seven. Enzo has scored in every competition he is playing with The Blues this season with three in the league, two in the FA Cup, and two in the Carabao Cup.
