Cole Palmer named Game Changer of the season by Premier League

Few players have done as well as Cole Palmer has this season with only Phil Foden, Ollie Watkins, Bukayo Saka and a few others have campaigns just as good as Palmers. That is despite the fact that few expected Palmer to do so well when he signed for Chelsea last summer. But in the year since his move, the 22-year-old almost singlehandedly kept the Blues in contention for Europe.

That includes several matchwinning performances as Palmer ended the Premier League season with 22 goals and 11 assists, the most by any Chelsea player since Didier Drogba. Not only that, it’s the first time a player has scored 20 plus league goals for Chelsea since Diego Costa managed it in the 2016/17 season.

But Palmer’s performances were far more important, including a brace against Burnley, a four goal haul and a hattrick against Manchester United.

Palmer beats Ollie Watkins, Kevin De Bruyne and more to win Game Changer of the season

It has seen the Englishman named Chelsea’s player of the season but not only that, Palmer has also now won the Premier League’s Game Changer of the season award. The 22-year-old beat out the likes of Darwin Nunez, Ollie Watkins, Scott McTominay, Kevin De Bruyne and Stefan Ortega to the award.

The league officially announced the winner on their website and revealed that Palmer’s hattrick against United was the reason he won it. With the Blues 3-2 down going into added-time, the 22-year-old converted a well-taken penalty to equalise 10 minutes into added time before netting his hattrick less than 81 seconds later.

It marked the latest comeback by a Premier League team as the Blues, at the time, had been behind for 99 minutes and 17 seconds. The forward won the award after getting the most votes and becomes the third recipient of the trophy, after Reiss Nelson last season and Ilkay Gundogan in the 2021/22 season.
