Reports hint that Liverpool are plotting a move for Feyenoord manager Arne Slot
The Premier League club Liverpool FC has been linked with a summer move for current Feyenoord manager Arne Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp after he exits the club at the end of the 2023-2024 Premier League season. The report regarding the Merseyside club being interested in the Dutch manager has recently come out of nowhere and is gaining momentum across the footballing world.
As per the football transfer market expert ‘Fabrizio Romano’, the initial contact between both parties has been held on a very positive note till now. Also, he hinted that more advance contacts will be made in the coming days as the Eredivisie club’s manager is very keen on venturing into the Premier League and joining the Reds.
Liverpool of course has been linked with several managerial options in recent times who could potentially succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Names like Ruben Amorim, Roberto De Zerbi, and Xavi Alonso have been tipped as the ones who could replace the Red’s current German manager. But none of those nominees for the throne have materialized to go on to hold advance talks with the club as of now.
With Arne Slot coming into the equation as Liverpool heads into the closing stages of the season, it might be a sign that the English club is now trying to escalate their chase for the new managerial appointment and possibly willing to look at other alternatives as well than the ones to which they have already linked with. Also, reports, term that Wolves manager Gary O’Neil could be interviewed by the Reds as they also have him on their list of potential candidates.
The performance of Arne Slot at Feyenoord and his preferred formation
Arne Slot joined Feyenoord in July 2021 as the club’s manager. His current contract with the Dutch side darts till June 2026. Reports hail that he doesn’t have a release clause in his contract. So, if Liverpool wants him, they would have to pay a hefty sum of compensation fee for acquiring his services. Slot has impressed in the 2023-2024 season of the Eredivisie.
Under him, Feyenoord have managed to win 21 out of their 29 matches so far, with only two losses, and six draws to their name. They currently sit in the second spot in the Dutch league’s table behind PSV Eindhoven. His preferred formation is 4-3-3, which is pretty much what Liverpool has been playing under Jurgen Klopp. In the ongoing season of the Eredivisie, Slot averages around 2.38 points per match with Feyenoord.
