Copa America returns for another spectacular edition as the South American championship kicks off on 20 June with reigning champions Argentina taking on Canada in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Albiceleste, who followed up their Copa America victory by lifting the World Cup in the following year, are once again the favorites to go all the way. Their skipper, Lionel Messi, is perhaps making his final appearance in the tournament and the former Barcelona ace will be looking to add to his already glittering trophy collection.
However, they still face challenges from traditional rivals such as Brazil and Uruguay, while Chile or Colombia are the dark horses. The hosts, USA, are making their first appearance since 2016, also coincidentally the last time they hosted the tournament.
Copa America 2024 Group A Teams
Title holders and favorites Argentina are the biggest side in the group. The world champions are overwhelming favorites to canter into the knockout stages by winning the group.
Another big name in the group is Chile, who famously won the Copa America in consecutive years, 2015 and 2016, beating Argentina in the finals on penalties on both occasions. Since then, however, La Roja have fallen off spectacularly, even failing to qualify for the last two editions of the World Cup.
Semi-finalists in four of the last five Copa America editions, Peru are no pushovers. Led by the ageless Paolo Guerrero. Los Incas are big hitters in the competition and can tear open any defense on their day.
The final side making up the group is Canada, who qualified after beating Trinidad and Tobago in the qualifying playoffs. This marks their first appearance in the competition and the Maple Leaves will be aiming to leave a lasting impression.
